How's it on gaming? Not top tier gaming im sure but how about regular gaming? Thinking of doing a rig for a teenager. Thanks!

Depends what you're trying to play. I'd say for eSports it's good (league, RL, csgo, etc) maybe for slightly more demanding titles such as overwatch it might not be the best especially if you're shooting for 1080p 144Hz in eSports. Budget gaming under $350? Absolutely. Get an 8gb stick of ram, a $40-50 case, $30-40 PSU, a used rx 570 for $70 and you'll be close.

Depends on if transcoding or direct play clients. If direct play this cpu is fine.

This does not have a lot of horse power for transcoding but could handle 2-3 1080p H.264 streams. This cpu around 6700 passmark.

4K HDR (50Mbps, 10-bit HEVC) file: 17000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)

4K SDR (40Mbps, 8-bit HEVC) file: 12000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)

1080p (10Mbps, H.264) file: 2000 PassMark score

720p (4Mbps, H.264) file: 1500 PassMark score

Unfortunately Plex doesn't support hardware transcoding on AMD GPU's. If you're not going to use a separate gpu, Intel cpu's are much better for plex since you can use the integrated gpu for transcoding.

Not ideal at all. Especially if transcoding is needed.

AMD cpu's are not good for plex. No hardware encoder/decoder onboard.

4 to 5 clients would probably overwhelm it.

Lol whatttt I'd hate playing rocket league on that, need 144 hz 60hz make a game like rocket league feel so laggy and just not fun overall in my opinion

Good CPU at a great price.

Just use a newer board like a 470/570 or B450 so you have a good upgrade path.

I use this with a 1050ti in a machine I build two years ago and it works well. I am not playing on particularly high settings in DOOM or Witcher 3, but that is less fault of the hardware and more me multitasking a lot using up all of my ram while playing the games through a Linux compatibility layer that has worse performance than playing natively on windows.

Looks pretty good for playing on 1080P- Grab a new/used rx580/590 or a used 1060 6GB for $100 and you're good to go on a very budget-friendly build.

Better off finding a used desktop about 8 years old... Garage sales..flea markets.. just make sure it's working good and not older than 8 years.
Don't know what kind of used desktop you're going to find for <$200. The people on Craigslist think a 486 is worth $50, ha.

deleted my previous comment, in error I thought this was a G processor. Nah, I'd wait for a better deal on a 2600 myself, a Ryzen 3 G model if starting ultra cheap from scratch, or spend a pittence more on a 1600 if microcenter is possible
