Just ordered. These will be perfect to throw in my lunch set. Anyone know of a good budget sheath or edge guard for them ?

I just bought two of these for $8 apiece for my bartenders. They think the pink and yellow handles are cute but I got them so we'd quit losing them among the steak knives and whatnot. Good basic paring knives from a trustworthy brand and this is a good price.

I purchased one of these about 6 years ago for $8 and honestly it's been one of my favorite knives to use. I maybe resharpen it with a honing steel once every 3 months and it looks and feels the same as the day I purchased it. Probably not what it was meant for but I personally use mine for cutting steaks, fruits, deboning meats, and pretty much anything that I'd find a small blade useful for.

These are awesome performing knives, no matter how cheap they feel.
They work, and they're sharpenable. And being from Victorinox I assume they won't fall apart. That's all I need in a fruit/bar knife. I'm a little more demanding at home but these are perfectly fine.

You can pretty much sharpen any metal to a crazy sharp cutting edge, but if you just want a long lasting one without sharpening

Ceramics do well. For fruits, you can go years before they dull.
True that ceramic knives stay sharp longer, but I don't know about "years" if you use them frequently. The downside is that they are brittle - twist one just a little or drop it wrong and you may snap the whole blade. I own a couple and use them sometimes when I'm doing a lot of prep work, but I prefer forged steel most of the time.

These knives are only ~$3 each.

Not a terrible deal since shipping is included but I wouldn't call it a "hot" deal.

EDIT: It looks like slickdeals changes to my link to track you are breaking the link.

Link isn't working. What is that? These are low-end Victorinox, and definitely better than most cheap no-name knives. $4 apiece is half price or better.

Honest question... why would I need more than 1 paring knife? Are people using these as steak knives primarily, or giving extras away as gifts? I cook daily but I think I'm missing something about why this is a popular set.
