This is good to have as a back up for if your return pump dies in your filter, or your filter dies. You can oxygenate your tank until you replace your pump. You sould also have battery operated pump for power outages. Just an FYI.

You need to get one way valve and tubing

I'm fairly new at aquarium ownership. Got a 10 gallon tank with a few small Glo Fish, kids love it. After the first few weeks (without air bubbles/pump) the water was getting cloudy. I got a small air pump, and it cleared up. Again, I'm a beginner, so not sure why that happened, but that's my 2 cents.
This is a killer price for name brand pump. Thanks for the post, OP.
Make sure you are doing weekly water changes too. Very important. Also, get a good water test kit if you haven't already. API Master Test Kit is the one to go with.

Are these better than the Marinas? The Marinas are much lower right now.

The tank needs to get cloudy for the tank to set up. Can't remember why. It can happen after a water change also.

FWIW I've had 3 tetra air pumps break in the past year and a half. The diaphragms are made of plastic that becomes brittle and shatters.

Gotta checkout for the discount.

Anyone know if the outdoor APK100 is weatherproof? I have 500-gallon outdoor pond with electrical nearby, but no ability to place the air pump anywhere truly safe from the weather.
According to the illustrations and documentation I can find on it... it looks like they are designed for outdoor use.

Do I really need air pump for tropical fish?
Depends on the filtration system and the type of fish. For some fish, like dwarf gourami, discus, they will prefer calm waters without much movement.

It's the nitrogen cycle. Very important for all the ammonia and nitrites to be consumed. It can also happen when you gravel vac, it may stir up some ammonia. I always use some sort of stress coat or water conditioner after a good gravel vac.

My 60-100 tetra air pump broke after just 4 months of use. When I contacted support, they claimed there is nothing they can do... I am using a Hygger 10w pump now. I would be cautious when buying anymore tetra products.

Airstone is a must for Discus tank because of the high temp requirement, I run my discus tank at 84F. High temp means less oxygen, so airstone is a must to help increase oxygen level. Fun FYI, the air bubbles you see do not add oxygen, it is the surface agitation resulting from bubble bursting that oxygenates the water.
