Ryobi is running a special on this specific tool set that includes the basic drill/driver, 5.5" circ saw, recip saw, flashlight, 2 x 1.3ah batteries and a standard charger. If you purchase this combo in-store, you can return the batteries and get the tool kit for $88.63.

**From 9/22 through at least 9/29 you can also get an additional 11% rebate via a HD gift card, effectively making the cost of this kit $78.88.**

Normal retail is $179 but they've marked it down to $149 on special and are including a dual pack of 2.0 ah batteries for free. I noted when I purchased the combo at retail, an extra $10 came off of the combo making it $139.

On my receipt, the return value of the "free" batteries is $50.37, so returning those gets you the tool kit for $88.63 before tax. The deal is also available online, but you can't return online purchases in part like you can store combos so it's not valid for this deal.

And to anyone unawares: There are battery adapters to cross-run tools/batts.

I run my Ryobis with Dewalt batts.

You shouldn't charge through an adapter 🔥

This set comes with some pretty basic batteries, so I'd suggest looking for at least one 4.0 ah pack to go with this set. If you keep your eyes open you can snag some decent deals, there were a few instances where dual packs of the Lithium and Lithium+ batteries went for as little as $60, and some of these showed up at $55 over Labor Day at VIPOutlet and Direct Tools.

Direct Tools will be having a whole-store sale that includes Ryobi batteries for Columbus day on October 12th, and may have their new site launched by then which could include some nice specials.

If you are shopping Craigslist or eBay, note that Ryobi batteries are warrantied for 3 years based on the date code in the serial number. Look for a sticker that starts with the letters "CS," the two digits following are the year of production, and the two numbers after that are the week of the year. I'd expect to pay around $10 per amp hour of the battery for new/like-new condition, less if refurbished or well used.

Has anyone tried doing the return yet?

Returning the batteries isn't going to lose the $10 AND/OR the $79 savings?

Selective reading for the win... Smilie "MUST RETURN ALL ITEMS FOR A FULL REFUND"

If you add the max refund value of $50.37 for the batteries, and $88.63 on the receipt, you end up at $139.. the subtotal on the purchase for a full refund. They don't want people buying items with free add-ins and then returning the main item and keeping the freebie at no cost, thus the inclusion of the text you partially copied/pasted.

Nope, I've done this at least a dozen times, you'll get the "max refund value" as documented on the receipt when you return either item. Note that the $10 discount you mention is baked into the max return value figures per my prior post. It's as simple a return as you'll ever encounter since the box is unopened, no card swipes or manager required. It's an absolutely routine return that requires them to scan the receipt and then the box, insert/swipe your card for the frefund, select email or printed receipt and then wish the CS person a good day and away you go.

Agree that once you have a few of the "starter" batteries you really want the Lithium + and the 4AH models. The batter gauge alone is worth it. I wouldn't stock up on a ton of the starter batteries. Nice to have a few.

Welcome!! EBay and Aliexpress.com have them ..... some have usb ports, which is kinda nice in a pinch Wink But, again: please don't charge through any adapter, since there's circuitry inside some batts that must be connected to charge without damaging batt or charger 🔥
