The Hercules is $299 with coupon: https://www.hfqpdb.com/best_coupo...+MITER+SAW

But I would personally never drop that kind of cash on a Harbor Freight tool. Hitachi is a known and trusted brand with quality products, but I'm surprised that on a saw this expensive they went with an amateur hour laser. Most everyone else is using a shadow line in this price range.

Outstanding price for a great saw, I was excited about this when it was at $350 and picked one up last month... $300 is a killer deal if you combine this price with one of the $0.99 ebay 10% off coupons to get down to $270 pre tax.

The Hercules has a 1 Year 100% refund if you don't like the saw.

If you want longer warranty, they have extended options and you get to exchange in store for a brand new unit. Other brands make you mail in the product or go to a service center for a repair (huge time waste).

HFT has stepped up their tool quality a lot. Hercules is worth a shot at $299.

I have read good things about the HFT saw. Particularly after you go through and square everything up.

That said, at this price point I would buy/recommend the Hitachi hands down. I own the version 1 (better, IMO) model of this saw, but I am really tempted to pick this one up for a family member.

For the same price, i would still go Hitachi. Ive seen a bunch of HFT tool tear-downs where individual components are examined and they are always astoundingly awful. I buy a lot of stuff at my local HFT, no way I would buy a power tool from them.

I have the HFT 12-inch saw and have been redoing my deck. I generally really like it, the only issue I've had is more to do with the matching Hercules Saw Stand than anything -- with the saw on the stand, it's unstable standing up in the dolly-position. Mine fell over once and the blade is not centered anymore, and I'm not quite sure how to adjust it so I am just going to swap it when I'm done with my deck.

The blade included with it is actually really good, which I think is half of the battle. The light-shadow guide system works well, but can be a little dim in bright sunlight (but still doable). It's still aligned even after falling over a few times. I'd buy it again, but 12" is almost too big -- it's heavy -- the stand and saw are probably a bit over 100lb.

With a lot of items at HF, I've noticed the low end stuff is crap, but their Hercules and other premium brands are not dirt cheap but respectable quality. I know this saw was reviewed favorably against the comparable Dewalt saw (I think MSRP 499).

They seem to be gone everywhere but I found the Metabo version (C12RSH2M) for $369 at Acme Tools. Didn't want to pay shipping so price matched with Lowe's and got it from $519 down to the $369. Then I opened a lows card and got another $30 so my final total was $339. Not the $299 price but stock shouldn't be limited and it's the newer version.

You aren't getting a Metabo (a professional quality line of tools) for anywhere near that price.

What you found is a Metabo HPT (Hitachi Power Tools) miter saw which has the same decent consumer level quality as the Hitachi of old.

Right, I gave the exact model number as well as said the Metabo version of the same saw.

Picked up one today using a 10% coupon. probably overkill for my needs honestly but for $270 plus tax I figured I'd pull the trigger.

Also considered this DeWalt deal that was also available around me but in the end went with the Hitachi: https://slickdeals.net/f/13387108-12-quot-15a-double-miter-saw-dw716-at-home-depot-175-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch

Anybody know if the blade that comes with this is decent? If not, what do you recommend? My first miter saw.

My first job with with it is actually going to be cutting rubber landscape curb edging so I would think it would cut that pretty easily...
