This is the current hub not the old Gen 1
Pretty sure there's a gen 3 (not that it really matters)

I never really understood Philip Hue and hoping someone can answer;

1) "You can even pair them with an existing Nest or SmartThings system." Do you still need the Hue hub if you have SmartThings hub?

2) I thought the fame to Hue is that you can set your bulb to any color you want? I guess that's a diff bulb? Want to know whats the diff between this and say C by GE or other cheaper smart bulbs that do not require a dedicated hub?
Other people have already answered, but to add to the second point, look up Hue Sync. This is a really cool feature for computer accent lighting that is free to use with Hue RGB lights. I can see other smart bulbs having a difficult time doing this.

If you get a LIFX bulb, you will never look back. Amazing colors compared to Hue and many more lumens.

How is this a good deal, let alone FP? There are multiple NEW ones on ebay right now for a few bucks less to a few bucks more.

That's different though. These are just white bulbs.

That being said if you have SmartThings, these are a rip off. Most of the white dimmable zigbee "off brand" bulbs are just fine and are a fraction of the price. You can still put them all your automations...but of course you need SmartThings.

I started with Hue and have a few hue bulbs, but since then I've gotten some Sylvania smart bulbs (they were like $4 or something) and have had no complaints at all. They do everything the hue bulbs do.
