#2 doesn't make any sense. Not you, but the notion that fewer features = more analog.

I agree, but there are plenty of idiots out there. Apparently having to manually lift and drop the arm makes the experience "more authentic" and its all about the experience. If I hadn't read this in a few of the influencer type websites when perusing poorly done turntable reviews, I wouldn't have believed it.

Any turntable gurus know how this stacks up against the Teac TN-350? I see this 400S is a 3 speed and has a slightly better cartridge... are those the only differences? Thank you in advance.

That is correct. Three speeds and slightly better cartridge are the only differences.

The romance with vinyl that some people have clouds their better judgement.

Vinyl records are for mainstream conformists. Real music lovers use wax cylinders.

You are most people?
If you read what myqueler wrote you would see he used the word "I." "I" is the Roman numeral for One. One's definition is not "most people.

Namlook used the term " most people," as if he was speaking for or knows what most people do when listening to music.

It was JimBanville that responded "Not true. I..." not myqueler.

I added a qualifier. The point was to explain how people can live without an automatic turntable which was apparently lost in the subsequent cloud of dust that was stirred up

I bought the Matte Bordeaux with the beautiful black tone arm and hardware to compensate for the lack of automatic function.
I figure that I'll be mesmerized by the beauty of the machine and will just sit and stare at it whilst the likes of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Peter Green stimulate my cochleae, ensuring that I will be present when the tone arm needs to be lifted off the record. Don't you wish someone would have marketed a manual CD player?

Wow, someone with a brain has arrived. Seems obvious doesn't it?

Most of them are fine. I have a direct drive turntable as a point of comparison and a Teac 300 and the Teac has been perfect.
I have 2 Teac 300's and both of them have been great. One required a speed adjustment after a year of heavy listening. After changing the cartridge these are a great value

Sticking to the topic...I bought one of these on one of the previous sales and it sounds fantastic. My only problem has been having to buy a new needle because of my curious children. I'd say it's a great pick up, I wish the walnut color had been available when I got it before.

It's a really nice model for a casual listener who wants something that sounds great and will last awhile. One of the better intro level (but not cheap) players you can get.

Used CDs are cheap. Nice plan. Good DACs too...

Just put the cover on the stylus and close the dust cover.

I did!! It's hard to thwart the combined efforts of a 6, 4 and 2 year old.
