can u elaborate 100e not being real audio techica and what would you recommend replacing?
The specs on the website read "audio-technica AT100E equivalent MM cartridge". It's also not branded Audio Technica. I don't necessarily recommend replacing it, and I certainly don't think it's a reason not to get the turntable. I was able get a cheap AT 100, and replacing a cartridge is easy to me, so I replaced it. I mention it because I missed the "equivalent" in the specs and was mildly annoyed at myself. Just wanted to be sure others notice if it matters to them, so they aren't surprised - which often leads to disappointment. I think Teac is underrated, I'd hate to see people feel unhappy over a missed minor detail like that.

I find it strange that Teac would be so specific about the model number in its sale literature and product manual and not actually be selling you an A/T cartridge. I think they're just not branding it because the model is discontinued but they continue to produce them in limited numbers for Teac. Some things that make me think it IS an AT100E but just unbranded:

-While the 400S manual specifies "The replacement stylus for the installed cartridge is green. It does not have an Audio-Technica mark", it then goes on to say "Replacement stylus model: Audio-Technica ATN100E". That is the model number for a replacement stylus for the 100E cartridge. This information is provided no fewer than three times in the manual.

-While it's green like a 95E, the subtleties of the shape of the stylus' plastic holder peg it as a 100E.

-The specs for the included cartridge in the 400S manual's Specifications page match the specs for the 100E, right down to referring to the cartridge as a "VM" design, which AFAIK is a specific naming convention only used by Audio-Technica (some of their literature claims that the VM design is "patented")

-The setup steps in the 400S manual indicate "stylus pressure" and "anti-skating dial" settings of 1.4g for "the included cartridge", which match the values for a 100E (1.4g VTF as per the AT website)
Your reasoning is sound and it is entirely possible (nay, it's probable) that you are correct. Just pointing it out because I missed that "equivalent" in the specs and was surprised when it wasn't the red, branded AT100 I know. Not a reason at all not to jump on this great deal.

Are there any modern turntables like this. What turntable do you have specifically? I want to look into one.
I have a technics QD33 from the 80's.

Is there a printable 2-point protractor available to align the cartridge on this turntable?

I've lost some brain cells over the years, but pretty sure my 1980's Technics belt drive turntable did not have automatic features. Nor my other friends at the time with Technics and Pioneer turntables. Some of our parents had automatic turntables but those were generally crappy. So I don't think manual turntables is suddenly a thing now, it was generally that way with many quality turntables back in the day.

My recollection of the 80's is quite the opposite of yours. Belt-drive TT's were basically considered sub-par and every TT I owned or was owned by anyone I knew was a DD and fully automatic. I still have my dad's DD/full-auto TT from 1980-ish and it works great after all these years. Wish I still had my Technics DD linear-tracking TT but I sold it around 30 yrs ago... to replace it now would probably cost a cool $200-$300, and I don't want it THAT badly...
