I own the 64gb version of this, had it about a year or so. I use it to transfer files from my PCs to my phone and occasionally to other PCs. Here are some thoughts.

tl;dr: I like this drive and this is a great price for it but it's not perfect.
  • Write Speed: hangs out in the 20-30mb/s range. I just tested transferring a ~4gb MKV file and it averaged 25mb/s. This is better than my crappy Kingston drives (10mb/s) but can't hold a candle to my Lexars that write 60mb/s+. Read speeds are excellent and also much faster to begin - 160mb/s that trails off to a still respectable 80mb/s.
  • I also noticed what someone else mentioned, that it's much more efficient transferring smaller files. Could this be a consequence of the file system? I forget if FAT32 affects larger transfers, but it is worth noting that the drive is FAT32 formatted and I believe this is necessary to ensure compatibility with all devices (from what I've read, I could be wrong).
  • An oddity - every time I plug it into Windows, it claims the file system is damaged but everything works perfectly. I can reformat it in Windows, but then it doesn't work on my Galaxy S8+, and must be reformatted with the SanDisk utility there. I just ignore the Windows warning.
  • It does get hot. Really, really hot. I do NOT recommend this if you want to have the drive plugged in most of the time.

In conclusion, I paid more than this for this drive and I am not disappointed with my purchase, though it is not a perfect device.

doh, new to USB-C, didn't know I needed this. Almost grabbed one when I realized the new phone is the only thing that uses it. No way to load it up for transfers with only one device.

Not trying to be mean but ....Why compare the Amazon price to the inflated MSRP at BestBuy when it's more appropriate to compare the Amazon price to the market price at Amazon?

$8.96 Compare: $9.50 3-month average price at Amazon, Range [$8.96 - $9.99]
  • Save 5.6%

$13.95 Compare: $14.49 3-month average price at Amazon, Range [No variation]
  • Save 3.7%

$22.99 Compare: $22.99 3-month average price at Amazon, Range [No variation]
  • Save 0.0%

$39.99 Compare: $40.73 3-month average price at Amazon, Range [$33.17 - $41.48]
  • Save 2.5%
Excellent comparison. The OP did exactly what we see in some deals when last year products are discounted and then the discount is shown off the actual price rather than the regular price at that point in time.

Sounds like it's throttling speeds due to temps. I think smaller files are seeing a benefit more from this drive unable to keep sustained transfer speeds due to the heat.

Ohhh that's an interesting idea, good call. That could be it. Now... where do I get flash drive heat sink? LMAO

I have the 128gb version. It works as expected. However, it runs super hot. After a few minutes of being plugged in, the casing gets very hot. I don't think it affects the usage, but losing data is in the back of my mind.
Yup. I have the 128 and I love it. I use it several times out of the week. I've had it for almost 2 years now. It's probably my favorite drive. It does run hot. Not scalding hot to burn yourself, but yes, noticeably hot. Does not effect the performance of mine either.

thanks, I missed that somehow, shows in video it's a dual drive. looking forward to faster transfers down the road. For all practical purposes this is like Thunderbolt? Like even Video over USB-C? I may have it confused with Apple Lightning cable.

Be wary of such comments... the price history is unambiguous. This is not on sale and almost certainly will be cheaper leading up to, during, and after Black Friday.

I've just started buying into this tech so no idea if it's a steal. It looks handy enough to justify regular price if you need it. Basically it's an adapter that can do double duty. $9 is that hamburger I haven't had in years.

I have no problem with paid advertisements reminding me to purchase regular-priced items. Regular priced items shouldn't be posted to "Hot Deals" though.

Got this last year and it works good. Writes and copies fast. I use it on my Android phone a lot to share files. However, it runs very, very hot (doesn't matter through the type A or C outlet). Even when plugged in to my phone. It scares me that it'll burn out if I forget to take it off my PC. So I always copy what I need to and take it out as fast as possible. I mean, I do that anyways with any flash drive but it's still worry some.
