ACG on YouTube made an excellent review video on Greedfall if you would like to learn more about this game. Seems to be getting good reviews all around.

Honestly, the reviews seem kinda polarized. I've watched game play though and it seems like my kind of game. Cross between Fallout, Dragon Age, and Assassin's Creed.

The best review I've seen of this basically says there are a literal handful of monster types and zero environment diversity, which is shit for an open world game. More importantly, every single game from this dev ends up on Game Pass. Just wait and you'll play this in a few months for free, after you put a dent in your backlog over the holidays.

From all the reviews I've seen, this is not open world. There are somewhat large sections of the maps without loading screens, and to move between them there is loading.

10+ hours of gameplay, and I can enthusiastically say this game is a wait for $20 or under. If you like Dark Souls or similar, you may enjoy it. If you want an RPG, craft rich experience, beautiful environments, an open world experience, a victorian/steampunk adventure, or combat that makes any degree of sense, I'd recommend 10 year old titles over this.

I just got out of the starting area after a few hours. It will scratch the western RPG itch if you lower your expectations. It is in the KOTOR, Dragon Age or Witcher type of gameplay just much less polished. They don't have a high budget and it shows.

I am enjoying the game for what it is, but if you have a backlog of games there is no reason to rush. If you are expecting old Bioware quality this will fall short.

So, like a Bethesda game, basically. (and I like Bethesda games).

This fits firmly within the Eurojank genre, though the production values are a bit higher than average. If you don't already know what Eurojank is, you probably won't like it. This a AA game with AAA ambitions, which means it has a lot of great ideas but often dubious execution.
