I'd recommend trying to find a used K2 Attack or Crush 2.0. Those were nice bikes at decent prices, many still going strong.

32+ pounds...that's definitely on the heavy side. Might be good as an entry level bike but that's it
I think my mid 90's Giant cro-moly weighs under 30. So yeah that's heavy, and without the flex of a steel frame.

I own a connandale and love it. Mine cost close to $500 and I do not regret the purchase. Not sure if it is the same model but looks similar. Highly recommend the brand at least.

I did replace the seat for more cushion though. The original hurt my butt.

Something too consider also the tires are not the best for street. Mine came with kenda tires and rides smooth on pavement. I'm not a bike enthusiast but figured I would mention in hopes it might help someone. My local bike shop helped me and set me up for my needs

This seems super cheap for a cannondale but the specs make me think it's a Luke-warm deal. Thoughts?
It's a crap bike. This is for riders who seldom ride. All it's got going for it is name recognition.

I picked up four of these from Raleigh/DB corporate when that thread was hopping. They closed out the Ziva Comp at 600 bucks free ship/no tax. Now that was one hellluva deal. We put those four bikes right into the next NICA mtb season. We're talking full on XC/Trail racing by hs kids. They've gone through 3 seasons of NICA now, and still going.

Btw the Ziva Comp weighs 26lbs race ready. I mention this to give ppl an idea of what a real starter bike that can hit trails is like.

All this hate but people aren't posting other options, kind of a bummer.

Looking to get a hybrid bike but the $400 entry price tag seems steep.

Why would you say hate? The bike in the OP is a dangerous proposition on real trails. We've had kids show up to MTB practice, albeit beginning of the year, and we won't let them ride on the trails. It's actually dangerous man riding basically a step up from walmart bikes.

That said, do you have a Diamondback/Raleigh corporate account? A few years back there was a code that allowed anyone to create a corp account. Anyways the Raleigh Redux 1 is 20% off with corp discount, making it $424 shipped. And the best part about the Redux is it is only 26lbs.

At this price point, you really shouldn't be buying a bicycle with any suspension.
Use the SR Suntour upgrade program. You can get one of their entry level air forks for $200. Put up this coil up for $20 on craigslist to bring it down a tiny bit more.

That fork will cost more than half the bike... It never pays to have to upgrade parts on a cheap bike. Though i agree the fork is a freaking boat anchor!

Just so that you know, this is not the same quality Cannondale some of you purchased 20 years ago...the company went bankrupt and was bought out twice. It is now owned by the same company that purchased a ton of other bicycle companies (GT, Schwinn, Pacific, etc.)

https://www.bicycleretailer.com/n...XharC5KiUk

That is not to say that it is not a good bike, it might be...but not the amazing bikes that they used to make (which is probably the reason they went bankrupt).
This.

I remember when Pacific cycles was the company that owned Schwinn. I had a Schwinn homegrown compact frame racing bike that was really $$.

Interesting to see these get consolidated into a single company

Back in the day Cannondale was awesome and did handmade in the USA aluminum frames etc. They tried to get into dirt biking and ATVs and took a hit from that.

Most of the bikes are you see out there probably are all made by the same factories in Taiwan now.

Hybrids are better off bought used. The resale value is horrible and it's basically a gateway bike for people who decide to either go road or mountain bike.

If you just plan to use it for 3-10 mile things, well. You end up saving money buying used anyway.

It's been this price for a few weeks and I got a Medium last week to replace my 12 year old Specialized Hardrock (Which the current gen MSRPs for about $100 more, very similar bikes). Build quality seems similar on both bikes. Shitty but passable welds. This Canondale has areas where you could tell they cheaped out such as the heavy weight, larger shifter group, and plastic brake handles. Etc. but for the money it's a GREAT deal. Show me another quality branded bike with disc brakes, nice colorway, and pretty sweet front suspension for less than $500. Clowns on Facebook are trying to sell used Specialized Hardrocks for more than this on Facebook/CL.

JUNK. The Cannondale name is long gone. This is barely different then some Walmart bike which are probably made in the same factory. Look for a used bike made prior to 2007, these new ones are all from Taiwan and cheap garbage.

Bike snob here. This is a good bike for trails. If you're on pavement I'd look at something else. Too heavy and fat tires make the bike slower and inefficient on the road (compare it to a Jeep).
You put these on the wheels and they will roll like butter (and no flats) while still handling trails very well. Very quiet to boot.
