The Firefox Private Network was announced today. It's a "VPN" for the Firefox browser. It's currently free for a "limited time". No mention of how long that will be and no mention of how much it will cost afterwards.

There are a lot of VPNs out there from people I've never heard of. Mozilla has a good rep. I would trust them more than someone somewhere I've never heard of. Since they make the browser I use for privacy anyways, not trusting them does't make sense.

We live in interesting times. We are taking extra precautions to protect out privacy (VPNs, credit monitoring etc) yet on the other hand we show the world our balls or boobs or both in all of social media.

The other day Kim Kardashian was complaining about her privacy in an interview.

How are these companies able to provide free vpn when others cost hundreds a year? Even app based vpns are free and work pretty well without data limit.
What VPNs have you seen costing "hundreds" per year?

I remember reading that Mozilla was working with the torproject to try to implement TOR into mainstream firefox, so perhaps this is the first step in their testing phase.
