I bought same laptop earlier in the year. Probably worst laptop I ever bought. Looks ok and feels good. But has hardware issues just randomly. Laptop keep crashing in-spite of all the updates. When calling Dell for support, they want me to pay $160 dollars to provide support even though laptop is still under warranty.

This or the previous m17 front page deal? Absolute noob to computers. This seems to have a newer processor and bigger ssd. Better screen.

I'm so wary of Dell laptops. The one I got my parents for Christmas still has issues coming out of sleep mode despite hours with tech support and having them change the motherboard. Will they do replacements or is a refund even possible at this point?
I had the same issue with my desktop (Asus MB), it turned out to be the usb wireless mouse that i have hooked to my pc. I disabled device wake up in the device manager and it stopped waking up.

Alienware is a better product, and cheaper. Not much difference between processors The G7 has a faster screen and more ram, but you can upgrade the rest as you need (hdd, ssd, ram, etc) on the Alienware..

This is 15" and Alienware is 17"

no, 2060 mobile chip, is more/less the same performance as 1660ti is the same as 1060 lvl performance from last gen.

The rtx on 2060 is a joke, it's too slow to be of any use, even at 1080p.

Nothing is future proof at the moment, because the ONLY card that can reasonably utilize Ray-Tracing with playable framerates is 2080Ti (and even then , it doesn't do a good job).

But for everything OUTSIDE of raytracing, 2060 = 1660Ti = 1060 (On Mobile)

on Desktop 2060 is a good chunk faster than 1660Ti and much faster than 1060. Desktop 2060 is a completely different performance lvl vs mobile.

Scarlett/ PS5 will have something close to desktop 2060 or gtx1080(vanilla), probably 5700 or 5700xt
This is the most uninformed comment I have ever read. The RTX 2060 is vastly superior than the 1060 mobile and better than the 1660ti. I've had 3 laptops with all 3 of these GPUs over the last 3 months and the RTX 2060 is an absolute monster. Firestrike scores will prove it. Not to mention the RTX2060 is more battery efficient on mobile devices. I have this G7 but with a i7-8750h and the RTX 2060 and it is super powerful.

Just a couple stats:
  • The RTX 2060 has 1920 CUDA Cores compared to the 1660TI's 1536
  • The RTX 2060 has significantly higher bandwidth at 336 GB/s compared to the 1660 at 288GB/s
If you have to choose between a RTX 2060 and 1660ti then you might as well go with the 2060 since it's more future-proof and the ray-tracing alone will be something you want to take advantage of even if there aren't a lot of games that support it currently.

The 1060 honestly isn't even comparable to these two so I won't even address that. The 1060 is still a fantastic mobile GPU, but it's not in league with the RTX 2060 and 1660ti.

Anyone have the part number to the 144hz screen? I have the 1080p IPS screen and can't find any information.

The 60hz screen is supposedly only 57-60% srgb, The dell chat guy told me the 144 has 150% srgb.I have a g5 w/ 144 on order, so I'll be able to measure and tell you when that comes.

This is the drawback to free speech, someone like zamardii who's totally uninformed about Laptop GPU / GPU in general can just make things up.

On mobile 2060, 1660ti , 1060 can all reach roughly the same performance (in games), dependent only on the wattage allotment and thermal dissipation limit of the laptop.

More cuda cores is useless as it does not uniformly acclerate game performance, memory bandwidth hasn't mattered much for a long while. and 336 vs 288 is no more than 1-2% frame rate difference at the worst case.

Again, power and heat dissipation is the most important factor in determining performance, when the gpus are this close.

as far as RTX, 2060 mobile isn't even worth considering. Even a full desktop 2080ti CHOKES with RTX feature enabled at 1080p. What exactly can you do with a 2060 on a laptop , crippled by heat limit and power limit. LMAO
