I got the Takstar and it's much better than GH5 onboard mic. Not much luck with a dead cat for it though, I got two off Amazon that said they were compatible and it was obviously a lie. One of them was big enough to use as a sock on my foot (the takstar mic is about the size of my index finger), the other was too short.

Why are the rhode mics so expensive and why is it literally the only brand I've ever heard or seen of for cameras? It's just like the blue mics for computers, the only brand I've ever heard of for usb computer mics.

I have a hard time justifying the cost of a separate mic since the built in ones on most cameras and phones are perfectly clear and the multiple mics on phones can even suppress wind noise without dead cats. Computer mics are still absolute trash though. And of course some of the mics are bigger than the camera or phone itself. I know some people want to isolate their voice and make it directional or eliminate ambient noises, but beyond talking heads in a noisy environment, I have never understood why reviewers keep on saying these are a big "upgrade" from built in mics. They will show themselves talking in both and the built in one always sounds better and clearer to me while the dedicated one is always more muffled. And if you want to record low end you need a mic well beyond any of these.

The preamps on the gh5 are super hot, have you tried setting the audio to -12 db when plugging in the mic? That should do wonders.

The retail price appears to be inflated. This appears to be good for lower-cost cameras.

Went through awesome! Thanks OP! Any thoughts on this mic? There aren't any reviews but Marantz is a pretty good name so it has to be decent.
I loved Marantz products...

but just received this mic. It is awful. Sound is extremely quite... probably 20 decibels lower than the the built-in mic of my DSLR. There's also a lot of static. I then tried it on my Marantz digital audio recorder and got the same terrible results.

$25 down the drain... <sigh>

You know, you could always use Shoprunner free returns or Paypal reimbursement for return shipping if you don't like it
Just as long as you haven't been waiting that long for laundry detergent!

Mine will flash the red LED once when switch to on position and then the LED will keep off. I don't know if this is normal or defect unit.
