Might be OK at this entry level price. Been looking at Marantz shotgun and video mics for the good name they have in receivers/amps and the incredible cost savings they offer. Not a lot of reviews out there for this specific item, but across the board, reviewers seem to smash Marantz recording gear as noisy and poorly designed.

If you are at an entry level with $20-some to spend, consensus seems to be go with the TAKSTAR SGC-598.

Had this one and it was horrible. No wonder why it's so cheap now. The noise was annoying in post and had to always equalize the audio to correct it. Mine arrived with a rattling part inside the mic housing and had to swap it out for another one. My replacement mic was just as noisy and the switch to control the attenuation snapped clear off. Don't waste your $25!

why is it $25 only by clicking on this thread,
but $99 if I go directly to Adorama's website?

Link above includes &emailprice=t . Probably the link in this tread was part of some kind of email promo campaign.

Went through awesome! Thanks OP! Any thoughts on this mic? There aren't any reviews but Marantz is a pretty good name so it has to be decent.

Was going to get that but then saw 3 out of 5 star reviews on Amazon. One review in particular showed extremely poor gain and lots of white noise. Anyone can comment on this if they have experience with this mic?

Nice OP! I've been eyeing those Rhodes shot-gun camera mic for close to 2 years. At $25, and from Marantz; I had to pull the trigger.

How does this one compare to the Rhodes?

Amazon link for comparison. 6 reviews, 3.1 out of 5 stars:

Damn, did you really wait 2 years trying to get a better price on a $100 mic?
What a SlickDealer, i should learn from you.
I would have bought it in like 1~2 month into my wait.

yes, but you will lose out on the stereo functionality. Everyone Android phone I know of only accepts mono input. You would need a $9 adapter like this one: https://smile.amazon.com/Vidpro-MA-SP-Microphone-Adapter-Smartphone/dp/B01MU3C9RG
