What's the opinion of folks on here using non-OEM oil filters? Fram etc., instead of
Toyota branded filters. In or out of warranty.
I
Gotta pick the one with the correct build and flow rate.

Take my Hyundai for example. If i select a "super filter" it wont flow enough oil, and does not have a bypass. So for me i just by my oem filters as a 10 pack or whatever from ebay.

But plenty of people can run "super filters" like PureONE or mobile1. A lot of "house brand" you have to find the secret decoder ring to find out who made it, you may find the house brand is alot cheaper, yet the same thing as a retail box super filter.

I like higher quality non-OEM for in and out of warranty. The Fram Ultras probably has the best price to performance ratio. Look for a 6 pack on EBay for the best value. Make sure you get the correct filter for your car and keep the receipts of oil and filter purchases.

Anyone think that the Pennzoil Euro might qualify?

https://www.pepboys.com/pennzoil-...ct/1809048

The MIR mentions these:
- 5-qt. Container of Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic Motor Oil (various #'s)
- 5-qt. Container of Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic High-Mileage Motor Oil (various #'s)

Since no particular SKUs are mentioned, maybe...
There's a red link titled "Get Up to $15 Back via MiR*" on that page. So it should qualify for the rebate.

+1 for the Fram Ultra (not to be confused with the "orange can of death.")

If I order for store pickup, does Pep Boys print out a receipt at pickup for the rebate or is the electronic receipt good enough? I have been doing Pennzoil rebates for the past few years with no issues but this is a great deal too, so gonna jump on it too.

Edit: NM, just saw that there is a pay in store option.

BTW, has anyone have their new tires installed at PepBoys? If so, what's your opinion? I bought a set from DTD and debating weather to have them installed at PepBoys or a local tires store that only sells and installs tires.

I've been using the fram ultra synthetic oil filter on both a toyota rav 4 and lexus gs350 for 6 years now, no complaints.

Find someone here:

https://www.hunter.com/gsp9700

Pay whatever they want. $20-25 per wheel/tire is about normal.

Is that because they use Hunter's machines and do I need road force balancing for my new tires? I heard that road force balancing is overkill unless the tires are bad or if it's not a good brand. Mine are BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sports.

Can I use this stacked with the Mobile 1 rebate that is still going on for another week? That would bring the price to $2.

I already did the Mobile 1 rebate at WM, was thinking about getting the PB one and returning two to WM.

Road force balancing is not overkill, IMHO.

Even if you dont need the extra precision from road force balancing, a shop that has such an expensive setup would hopefully do better work than a chain (Walmart, Pep Boys, etc)

Every vehicle Ive bought in the last 10 years benefited from road force balancing. They really are getting more and more finicky as we get bigger diameter wheels, lower profile tires, etc.

Any brand can have a bad tire, too....anything mass produced, really, can have a lemon every now and then.

Pennzoil stiffed me on the rebate last go around. They emailed one day before the deadline saying I didn't have proof of purchase of 2 jugs (which I already submitted) and that I needed to resubmit by the deadline. Never happened with Mobil rebates.

Great deal, Ill probably end up getting 2x 5qt of Mobil 1 2x 5qt of Pennzoil (both high-mileage and regular) and 2x 5qt Castrol edge for the various cars I do oil changes on. Anyone know if get a second receipt printed at the register if I can do the Pennzoil/Mobil 1 manufacturer rebates as well to make this even slicker?
You can submit both online with a picture or scan. No need to separate the transactions.
