Pay with GasBuddy Premium + 24 hr Roadside Assistance for $6.99/month

I was wondering what people might think of this deal. It would be nice to eliminate my membership to the AAA roadside, which I pay about $150 / year.

This deal allows you to save 20 cents / gallon up to the first 40 gallons / month. Then save 5 cents / gallon. And you can call Allstate up to 3 times a year for help.

Anyone actually used their roadside assistance vs having used AAA before? Curious on anyone's real experience. Gas savings may be worth it in general, but that's $4.99/month without roadside assistance.

Many premium credit cards do come with roadside assistance and the cheapest AAA is $55.

There are 5% Cashback gas credit cards like Ducks unlimited.
However the breakeven is 30gal with gasbuddy to recoup the $5.99
Effectively gasbuddy savings can translate into 3% - 8% after the first 30 gallons.

anyone who uses a company that can't even secure their website adequately (i.e. using http vs. https) is not a company I'd trust with having access to my bank information (esp. the gas savings / pay with GB) is linked to a bank account, not necessarily a credit card. Too many loopholes for thieves to gain easy access. Had been a GB member for over 10 years, watched the company go down the drains when it was sold to Pig Oil - it is now a shell front for big oil companies to draw more money and monetize your information. NO longer the company that cares to save ppl money. Caveat emptor is the mildest way to put it when dealing with the "new" GasBuddy.

Also, if you tow a trailer, ANY trailer, beware that most companies will NOT come to your assistance! Also, RV roadside service is extra - if you need it, make sure GB offers it. We tow a 30+ ft flatbed and a 3H horse trailer. AAA (when asked before needing assistance) stated very clearly that they will not assist even JUST the vehicle... it must be completely disconnected from the towing vehicle for any AAA to assist.

At least for the Carolinas AAA can be as low as $19/yr. I get mailers for that price all the time.

Take off your foil hat and listen and don't scare all these fine traveling folks. IMO the best tow service to have is from your insurance roadside and make sure you have the mileage to be covered under yOur policy. Assuming you have your truck/RV and trailer under the same policy anytime you use it for a tow you are covered no matter what. We usually charge extra if you have a trailer but you must inform the tow company's dispatch..not your insurance because we hate surprises once we arrive. Your insurance will pass the buck just to get you on your way. We don't have tow balls in back of our flatbed trucks for looks and design because they actually get used. I once towed a female who was moving from Montana to So Calif. due to her leaving an abusive relationship with all her belongings in a uhaul trailer which was being towed by a Dodge Durango. AAA is great for the usual battery off freeway type stuff but they panic when it doesn't run under a script.

What are the terms for GB's membership? On their platinum premiere plus plan, AAA for my region used to have one free battery replacement once a year, 3x 200 mile tows and any 2 mile tows. They pulled back since then but a battery replacement used to cover the cost before. Although their "repair center" near me charges an arm and a leg for stuff now, they used to be cheaper. Also, in the past 5 years, I've used them to buy discounted passes/tickets 3 times. Last year, I was visiting California and saw their AAA even offered title services like a DMV. It's been a good service, any of these come with GB?

Be careful going through your insurance for roadside assistance. Some ding you as a claim every time it's used. YMMV.

Gasbuddy app is one of the worst you can put on your phone for privacy and security. It's an information vacuum, even when it's not on-screen.

40 gallons per month x $0.20 = $8.00.

So you're saving $1.01 a month in gas in exchange for your data.

No thanks.
