At 45mp, maybe I should just do FILM! I mean, I can get a Nikon F3 for $4.50 on eBay!
I just need some Kodachrome and ability to develop it. Oops! Kodachrome not made anymore! Strike One! Paul Simon needs to rewrite his song. And Dwayne's Photo in KS doesn't have the chemicals to develop it. Steeerrrrrike Two! So that must make me a blubbering neanderthal. Strrrrriiiiike Three! But I will be the last one laughing (along with Paul Simon) when the next Carrington Event happens, and all your storage devices are wiped pristine and sparkling clean with no pictures to look at. What is the difference between this camera and the one on Amazon that is cheaper? https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D850-Camera-International-Model/dp/B076BXDX5F/ref=asc_df_B076BXDX5F/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=366384189491&hvpos=1o9&hvnetw=g&hvrand=941425644813394292&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1025314&hvtargid=aud-799727667774:pla-422157565886&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=75347436479&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=366384189491&hvpos=1o9&hvnetw=g&hvrand=941425644813394292&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1025314&hvtargid=aud-799727667774:pla-422157565886

The one you're linking to is the "International" version. Or "grey market".

Same exact camera but not covered under USA warranty, meaning you can't get warranty repairs in America.

That's why it's cheaper.

Have had the Sony a7r3, a7r2, Nikon z6, z7, Fuji xt2, Nikon d810, D750, canon 5d4 and 5d3, and the d850 is still the best all around pro-grade camera I've ever owned. Have used mine for everything from commercial, to portraits, product photography, to weddings. The z6 and z7 are phenomenal for travel and my personal photography (I have the z7 still) but I prefer DSLRs for client work.

XT3 IS 30% of the price of this camera and boy it's not that far behind when it comes pictures and it's also better for video.

Yep. A good phone camera serves 90% of most people's purposes. You'd never take a phone camera to a photo shoot for exactly the reason you mentioned (enlarging and printing). However, most people these days take photos to put on Instagram and Facebook etc. For that, nothing beats a phone - I think the software on those phones are far superior to the software built into these DSLRs.

If Nikon and Canon could somehow manage to hire the software engineers from Apple or Google, their DSLRs would be so much more user friendly and automated. Much better touch screen interface too.
No professional photographer wants to have software edit their images for them.

my LG g2x takes stunning pictures, why would I even waste my money on this camera? someone explain to me. smartphones have become so good with photography, no one should have any need for this. like I said, my LG g2x is fantastic and I'm an on-the-side photographer (I shoot pic and vid on my LG).
Lets go a step further than the previous responder, this camera has many many lens' for every single type of photograph you can want to take. Wanna farkin take a picture of a ladybug, on a blade of grass? farkin Macro Lens. Wanna take a picture of the flag on the moon? With a big enough telescopic lens, you bet your ass you can. Want to really REALLY go in depth with your photos and make them look a quadrillion times better? The camera stores them in RAW. uncompressed format, you can change individual pixels' color if you so chose. Your LG can't even do 1,000th of the things this camera (with the proper equipment) can do.

What would you like to do with the d850 that you can't currently do with you're D810? Do you see yourself doing enough of this new photography to justify an extra 1700-1800 dollars over your current body assuming you can get 1k after fees etc for your d810?

In terms of just straight sensor output, the d810 36mp sensor is still awesome. The main things you get with the d850 are exceptional autofocus performance (same module as the D5), dedicated AF joystick, larger and brighter viewfinder, and 4K video. The 45mp sensor is in some ways a downside for me, but if you like lots of resolution it's a good thing.

If you don't need better autofocus performance than the d810, then I'd recommend sticking with what you have. I've shot several MMA fights with the d850 and it always impresses the hell out of me.

I agree the XT3 is an awesome camera. I almost got one but ended up just getting the Nikon z6 and z7, as well as the Leica Q2 for my mirrorless needs (which is primarily for travel and personal photography). If I was an enthusiast, I would most likely only use mirrorless cameras and the xt3 would be one of my top picks as the X lenses are exceptional. However, as a working photographer I need a DSLR for a lot of my work - studio work in particular
