Plenty. First, China Airline is not Chinese, despite the name. Headquartered and run out of Taiwan.

There are direct flights from the US to Taipei on United and I believe Delta. You can also fly via plenty of connecting airlines, such as Asiana, Korean, ANA, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, the list goes on.

Mainland Chinese people always love to chime in about Taiwan and how they believe it is part of China. They want to believe that because Taiwan is a very progressive Asian country that values freedom. Ironically, It is only that way because it isn't part of China. See why hk is fighting maybe

This post is wrong. China Airlines is based in Taiwan. It's a direct flight.

Are there actually any LAX-TPE flights without terribly long layovers? Last time I checked, the layovers were ridiculously long and not worth the savings.

I don't mean this as a smartass. Is there anyway to get to Taiwan without having to fly on a Chinese airline ?

China Airlines and EVA fly nonstop. Not at this price though, but probably a $100 or $200 more.

the nonstop flights are running $200+ more, not $100.

Just fly to Hong Kong and you can catch a cheap flight to Bangkok on AirAsia.

These are all terrible deals because of the layover in a Chinese city.
If you think US airports are poorly run, then you're going to have a terrible time.

These prices are about 1/3 cheaper than EVA or China Airlines, which are far better and do not have a layover.

Taipei is a great city, and worth a visit, but not sure if saving $200 is worth stopping in China for a few hours.
