Found Season One of Alton Brown's Good Eats on sale on Google Play [google.com], Amazon Prime Video [amazon.com], and iTunes [apple.com] NLA.

I apologize if this was already mentioned. I only saw season 16 on search.

I'll correct formatting if needed. On mobile.

It's not true HD. HD wasn't really prevalent, or perhaps even unavailable, when this show started in 2005....the horror, I know 😁
I worked in local TV post-production starting in 1983, through the linear-to-nonlinear editing shift and 4:3 to 16:9 SD change and then to HD. We were linear editing an HD special in 2001 (which I remember because it was during 9/11), so while HD was expensive to produce locally, it was certainly available in 2001. Remember TV video is different from film, 35mm resolution is independent of what can be transferred to video. Whether the initial seasons of "Good Eats" was taped n HD was entirely an economic decision by the production company, not a technical decision.

Uhh, Gordon Ramsey has won 16 Michelin stars, that's the third most by any chef. So yeah you're right, he is "massively overrated".
Massively overrated as a celebrity and television personality is what I meant, not as an actual chef, sorry. His qualifications, as you listed them, speak for themselves. however, that doesn't mean he is someone I would wish to train under, meet, watch on TV, or avoid hitting with my car if I saw him crossing the street.

Yes both of those guys get way more credit than they deserve.
I expected people to defend Brown and Ramsay, and that's fair, my views are solely a matter of personal opinion. But I see no such defense of Kimble or Raichlen, LOL.

Yes, this show is to blame for him. I normally have better things to do than voice distaste for people I don't care for, but I simply can't watch that pretentious clown. I'd rather subject myself to a Steve Raichlen self-ego-stroking marathon or listen to that massively overrated jerk Gordon Ramsay berate some poor aspiring chef who did nothing terrible. Brown is not only annoying but frequently just wrong. He's the fool who once insisted that the only way to make a good burger was to griddle a loose, nearly spherical little lump. That's unforgivable. Thanks anyway OP, but I'm out. The only worse foodie is Chris Kimble.
He's right about the burger. Let me guess, your idea of a good burger is basically a meatloaf shaped like a burger??

Rofl! Yes, as far as his personality goes and the stories about that personality, I'm with ya...

And I hate that effing arrogant Kimball too. Just die already!

many people say ramsey's behavior is an act. i admit i used to watch kitchen nightmares and hell's kitchen but the tantrums and cursing get really old. but his act works better in america than his homeland.

who's watching kimball's new show or buying his new mag? that should put him in his place. i watched and then gave up.

Guess again. Or better yet, don't. I happen to believe there is actually more than one good way to concoct something as basic as a hamburger. I'm sure his are fine too, but I've eaten a few that I thought were excellent, and none of them looked exactly like what Brown made. Sorry you think he's the only one that knows anything about hamburgers, because it must be tough to eat out.

By far the most interesting cooking type show for educated people interested in learning facts, history and the science behind food. I miss this show.

I didn't realize it was coming back on! Sweet

While I understand where you might get the pretentious part, I don't think that's really him. I think he's actually acting a part, just being consistent for what you'd expect from someone explaining things to other people. There are plenty of things he does that a pretentious person would scoff at and he makes fun of some of the things that are said. It's more of someone goofy trying to act pretentious for certain segments of the program to play that "role".

The Google version is SD, not HD, double checked by playing other HD content I own on Google which was in HD.

Cooking a hamburger in a specific way is "unforgivable?" Sheesh, dramatic much? It's a wonder someone that picky about their food gets enough nourishment to survive. Maybe they carry an IV bag with them wherever they go.

Thanks for the fair rebuttal, rather just ripping me for ripping him. I respect your opinion, and I suppose Brown probably isn't as bad as I perceived him to be. I honestly didn't watch him much, and this series is how old now? To be completely fair, the odd camera work and brutal editing were a style I didn't care for at all, and probably turned me off to Good Eats as much as he himself did. His inclusion of some scientific explanations is the sort of thing I normally appreciate, but I felt more like I was being lectured to by an egotistical professor than having something explained by a friend. The same is true with the goofiness - I thought it was contrived and cringe-worthy rather than funny. Surely he knows his stuff (other than hamburgers), but I did not enjoy watching the show as a whole and have avoided anything Alton Brown since.

America's Test Kitchen had a rocky first season without him but I think they are so much better now than when he was there hovering over the ladies and making weird flirty comments to them.

You know, when I saw him sitting in a chair sans bow tie and just talking, he didn't seem like as much of a weirdo and had some good explanations for things. He might just be one of those guys who always wants to look like the smartest person in the room even when no one cares, and gets carried away trying to prove it. Or maybe not. Either way, I don't enjoy watching him, and ATK is definitely better without him. That isn't a show/concept that needs a host just to introduce and recap what they do, and everyone else is perfectly capable of keeping our attention.
