That was the 870 that you're talking about, I almost buy it until I saw it was SATA interface.

Geek Squad have 90 days warranty. But for ease of mind, that $10 extra for product replacement is really worth it.

no, that was an ex920 hp, not samsung, samsung has always been ~ double the cost of everyone else.

They are faster though, so the mercedes of SSDs ,, LMAO

Samsung uses the S/N for warranty, so you can use the original warranty on this.

This is NOT a good deal though,

Because while the 1TB evo 970 is fast, the 500gb version is much slower.

At this price, it doesn't make sense to buy this, you're better off getting the 1TB HP ex920 for ~90-120$ (brand new) w/ full warranty, and is only ~30% slower in raw data rate, but faster for peak rate which is the more common usage scenario..

I don't know how Samsung necessarily works but unless they're allowing them to use their own backdoor tools there's no way that Geek Squad could "refurbish" a SSD. The most they could possibly do is clear the existing counters or something but your drive is still going to be a used drive.

And yes, the NAND will have a limited number of P/E cycles so once that's been used you're never going to be able to get that back.

I mean there are certain things you could replace on them (like micro resistors) but the vast majority of these refurbished units are just going to be user returns. They check them out electronically and make sure they are functional, do the ol' spit-shine and repackage them.

You clean it up, make sure it works, and secure erase it.

Yeah, flash memory does wear out.... but what doesn't eventually wear out?
