That's it, I'm going to stop buying games until I'm ready to play. I got this a couple of months ago when it was a "no brainer" at $20. Haven't played it. Now it's $12.

Coming from primarily an RPG gamer, it's the best RPG this console generation, with The Witcher 3 a close second. Mechanically it's superior. The anime aesthetics will be hit or miss for you. Thematically, think Scooby Doo set in modern day Japan, but rated M for Mature. That being said, if you haven't played it yet, it's best to wait six months and pick up Persona 5 Royal. This is easily a 100+ hour game, and Royal will add at least another 20 hours as it adds 3 more months to the current 9 months of playable game calendar as well as another party member. The story doesn't change, but the depth of character interaction will.

If you like any type of JRPG, this is a must. Awesome story. Good music too.

Yeah right, it still is a good game even at full price. Don't impulse buy then.
Were you one of those saying it was a "no brainer" at $20? If you are all in favor of paying full price, why are you here?

I think it's hard to compare the two as one is a turn-based JRPG and the other is a western action-RPG, but I'd rate the Witcher higher just because every scene appears like it was motion-captured even though it leverages in-game graphics. It gives a level of immersion I've yet to see in another game. One place Persona is a bit weak is conversations are voice acted, but merely just placed over a headshot of a character with a moving mouth.

That being said both would be on my top 5 of the past 5 years or so.

Curious about your comment about Witcher 3 being 2nd and this being #1. I've been searching for another beautiful RPG experience like W3, but have had many disappointments. Will check out the review for this game, but curious on your thoughts. What RPG elements does this do well?

Story of my life. I should know better but I know darn well that my backlog will grow even more during Black Friday sales in 2 months.

What other modern JRPGs are this good? I'm desperately looking for another latest-gen console game with fantastic production, battles, story, and music.

(I've played the latest Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest already.)

This is a JRPG that focuses heavily on relationship management (pretty common among JRPG's these days). It has amazing style, characterization, is pokemon-esque, turn-based, has an intriguing plot, an amazing amount of content.

There's nothing quite like the Persona games.

it really is a time-sink though, I think its something like 60-90 hours for a regular playthrough.
