Hard shell is waterproof if you fly through snowy or rainy weather. Sometimes bags sit out there in the rain/snow.

Hard shell start to crack after some beating (fabric will not, first failure will be the wheels which will happen to either.)

Hard shell split at the middle, fabric split to the edge of one side, the distribution of space is different. Some travelers dont mind the difference.

Yes, I bought a blue model last year at this price and it's really good. I take the small size one for work trip carryon. And the bigger size one is smaller than the biggest one you can check in but it's enough for me to pack a week or two travel worth of stuff. The backpack that's included has a wide band that you can put it over either of the luggage's handle. They're spinner type with 4 wheels and pretty sturdy so far. I've bought another set for my dad and my aunt also wanted a set so I got it for her as well. We're a fan,

Thoughts on this fabric material, compared to the harder shell variety?

You get the extra pockets with fabric. Sometimes it comes in handy

I purchased this exact set over a year ago, same seller, everything has held up great. The smaller roller is too big for carry-on for most international flights but no issues with carry-on with airline like SouthWest.

Does the 21" spinner count as carry on?

We ordered two sets from Samsonite via Ebay in November 2017.
- We donated the backpacks, so we have no experience here.
- The carry-on size has held up fine. We're still using it today.
- The large check-in bags have not held up. We usually pack the large ones up to the 50lb limit. Sometime in Dec 2018, one wheel broke during an international trip; this was probably only the 4th or 5th use. It made it through the rest of the trip, mainly in upright position (4 wheels) rather than tilted (2 rear wheels). On a subsequent trip, the main zipper compartment broke. Left the luggage in the hotel, because it wouldn't have made it home and wasn't worth the shipping to the repair center and instead filed an extended warranty claim with AMEX. The second one broke this year in June 2019 on another international trip; the main side handle broke. We left this on the curb for someone to take. I think one wheel was also on its way out.

Previously, we had a fairly good Samsonite set that lasted more than 5 years and many domestic and international trips, but eventually the 29" wheel broke as well, and we moved on to this Tenacity set.

The price is good, so we may pick this up again, knowing it may only last 1-2 years tops.

Well, I just googled this set and the price in some stores is around this one, so I would think is more of a "permanent" offer than a real good deal. It is a good price but that's it.
