these should be $399 in 2019, they are not designed for human - heavy and clunky(cable), the build quality is pretty crappy and material(pleather) used is cheap and carries the plastic smell for months. at this price I'd say the LCD2 is better, at least they are built way better.

just my 2c... sorry about the rant

I have tried these on and they are very comfoy for me. def not as heavy or uncomfy as old he-5 and he-6. cable you can get a custom. in fact most peeps who have serious headphones use custom cables. not sure about smell though... people buy these for drivers, which many consider to be outstanding.

Audeze vs HifiMan is a personal choice for sound character. I prefer the HifiMan character personally. I also think HifiMan's are more comfortable. But this is my head and my ears. YMMV.

It's been too long since I've heard the HE-6 to comment on the sound.

A close friend just switched from HifiMan to Mr. Speaker Aeon and is super happy. He doesn't live near me anymore, so I haven't heard them yet. He compared them against Sundara and 560 and Focal Clear and two Audeze and preferred the Aeon by a big margin.

afaik, original drivers but new rest. much more comfortable than old base, even if it was sturdier (and much heavier)

Supposed to be based on the original drivers, with some modifications. Most reviews say they found fairly similar but prefer the older ones. But as people have warned... get a decent amplifier.

The LCD-2 still have a MSRP of $1000, and they weigh more so I'm not sure the LCD-2 is a valid comparison.

Back in like 2011 when I was at a head-fi meet I owned both the HE-6 and LCD-2. It was nearly unanimous that people preferred the HE-6. There's a reason the HE-6 sells used for $800-$900 and the LCD-2 sell for $500.

To be fair, Audeze regularly has the LCD-2 on sale for $500 new or refurbished. That puts a big limit on used selling prices. If the HE-6 was regularly on sale for $500, they probably would also go for $500ish used. IMO they're both in the same tier, each with their own strengths.

that's not a q anyone can answer for you as there are 10+ stax models and 10+ different amplifiers that one can use... i only compared these to sr-007 I owned before... while that's more of a $2500 combo with a decent stax amp (not after market ones), I found stax sound smoother and warmer, while he-6se during my eval was much more punchier and faster.

Thanks. I have the ancient SR Lambda Pro set with an equally ancient SRM-/MK2 amp. I think these were the "original" Stax and were considered top shelf back in the day. I'm wondering how my dinosaurs stack up against the latest technology.
