Albeit, grade a Amber rich.

If you want deeper maple flavor get the dark and robust. If you need to save some money use it to flavor basic pancake syrup(like 50/50 ratio) You get the viscosity from the pancake syrup and the intense flavor from the robust. Best of both worlds

Camel x 3 shows that, with rare exception, Amazon has sold it at this price for most of the last 2 years. How is this a deal?

Yeah, I get it at this price from Amazon all the time, this is regular price. Still much cheaper per ounce than buying a tiny bottle at the grocery store.

For those new to it, I would really recommend trying a dark variety. I haven't tried this brand, though. When I was traveling in Quebec, Maine and Vermont, this is obviously a big thing there and I learned more about it. However from my experience the darker ones were often called "Grade B" which, though it sounds worse, is actually better in some ways. This dark variety is Grade A so I'm now not sure what makes the difference. I had been told that the A was generally less-mapely, clearer, lighter -- remember that originally this syrup was a universal sweetener before we had large production or importing of sugar, so a heavy "mapley" (I know it's not a word..) was considered less desirable.

But this is a large quantity if you're not sure. At this time of year, check Trader Joes or Costco.
Often, Trader Joes has a variety pack with 3 or 4 smaller glass bottles of different types of maple syrup. Usually about $10/pk. This deal is cheaper per-ounce, but the variety of trying the different ones, and small bottles easy to use is handy too. Costco sometimes had a set of 3 larger glass bottles with similar variety. [or Sams if you are in a Sam's area -- I have not seen syrup varieties there, but they did sometimes have nice olive-oil "gift sets" but both Costco and Sams bring in different stuff by region and time of year.
