3 points about this product:

1. In case it's not obvious these are synthetic (made of nylon) that contains abalone (ground shellfish) for abrasiveness to clean teeth. Take care if you or your dog have a shellfish allergy.
2. Labeled "Made in the USA" yet "Country of Origin: Afghanistan."
3. A disturbing number of number of reviews state this product caused their dog chipped teeth or GI injury. Read the reviews yourself or see below.

I recommend talking to your vet about this. Many of them will recommend cow nails, deer antlers, or rib bones as an alternative (not weight-bearing bones like femur as they are more dense than the dogs teeth and will also crack them in some circumstances).

My dog loves these, they are big on chewing. They normally last them about a month or so before they get the jagged parts poking out, then need to be thrown away. My Jack chi loves to hide them in the couch

I recommend talking to your vet about this. Many of them will recommend cow nails, deer antlers, or rib bones as an alternative (not weight-bearing bones like femur as they are more dense than the dogs teeth and will also crack them in some circumstances).

We discovered that there was a larger piece of this bone lodged in her back-side
  • Quote :
Both of my dogs have chipped several teeth on these. Our younger dog broke a tooth in half, the facial portion of a very large molar, exposing the root of the tooth leading to it being extracted. While I thought these were good for keeping our dogs busy, definitely not good for them! I warn anyone in the toy isle to avoid these. Please learn from my experience! I've worked in the dental field and would never buy or recommend to anyone.
  • Quote :
My dog broke his 4th premolar, the largest tooth in a dog's mouth, chewing one of these bones last week. The tooth broke in half and was sheered off from the side, blood went everywhere. I immediately took him to the vet and confirmed several things 1) My dog has strong, perfectly healthy teeth with little to no tartar build up. 2) He is not a heavy/aggressive chewer and had no wear marks or anything that could contribute to this 3) Had I not literally seen this as it occurred and taken immediate action, my dog could have died - either from choking on the tooth, the bone, or blood loss. I can't emphasis enough this could happen to anyone - my dog is a 65lb Belgium Shepard/Collie mix who has pretty much lived like a king his whole life. He's almost 8 now, and in this one vet visit I spent more money than every vet visit his entire life combined.
  • Quote :
Nylabones caused both my small dogs to have slab fractures of their teeth, back molars. We discovered this a few years after they started chewing them, and they both had to have teeth extracted (they didn't chew anything else that was hard).
  • Quote :
he just broke off 1/2 a molar while chewing one. My Vet said that Vets DON'T recommend nylabones for just this reason! Now my poor sweet dog is in pain and has to have dental surgery that will cost me about $500
  • Quote :
my older dog ended up with 10 broken teeth and thousands in dental surgery!!! Buyer beware
  • Quote :
This item cost me over $500 in vet bills when the nylon bits tore up her intestines and gave her a serious case of gastritis. She had to have IV fluids and medication and continuous x-rays to check the bits' progress throughout her system
  • Quote :
The nylon material is too hard on my dogs' teeth. Several teeth have chipped/broken now. I stopped use as soon as I noticed the problem.
  • Quote :
Still, some teeth will have to be extracted. This product should include a warning. Or reimburse me for vet charges.
  • Quote :
Well... to make a long story short. He cracked his tooth and $1000 later. Save your dogs teeth and your wallet
