One thing to note based on the reviews so you know why the differences in # of discs:

"If you like the TV version of Friends, you'll love it. If you prefer the DVD version, you won't care much for it.

I have the DVD box set and wanted to upgrade to Blu-ray so I bought this. In the very first episode, I noticed there were lines missing and as I went on, entire scenes missing. I looked it up and it turns out that the Blu-ray has the shows exactly as they are run on TV whereas the DVD has about 3 min of additional footage per episode. Doesn't seem like much, but that equates to about 12 hours of footage over the entire series. I tried to just live with that, but I'm so used to the DVDs that it's painfully obvious when they cut out a line or a scene and it just doesn't seem right without it. So, if you've only ever watched the show as it aired and/or in syndication, I would recommend this box set over the DVD because it's higher quality and fewer discs. If however, you are considering upgrading from the DVD box set, I would NOT recommend this as you will, in my opinion, miss the deleted scenes that that didn't include in this Blu-ray set."

Seriously, if you watch the DVD version it's so hard to go back to the shorter broadcast version. For some reason I thought there would be a 25th anniversary version of the Blu-Ray that would finally add the missing scenes so it could be the ultimate Friends box set but no luck. The missing content helps with smooth transitions, adds a little context, makes some of the big moments even better, etc.

In before the pretentious d-bags come in to show how "cool" they are by hating on the show.

Probably. My understanding that it took quite a bit of work to get these up to snuff to blu-ray quality, and they were only committing to doing it to the final version of the show as they intended, not the stuff that never made it out of the cutting room. This was from the producers I believe, it's just not something that they want to do. The version you saw on TV is the version they WANT you to see, things were cut for a reason in their view.

Thanks OP!

Was thinking of getting this since it will be gone from Netflix.

One Amazon review says there is a trick to get the missing scenes on Blu.

To the guy that asked if these can be digitized the answer is yes. I plan to rip these
to my media server. It's a hell of a lot of work tho. I got the DVDs because blu would
take too much time to rip for me..

Be warned: not every standard DVD box set or edition includes the extended scenes that were cut for time.

This DVD version of the 25th anniversary repackaged edition comes with only 32 DVDs vs the other box set of 40 DVDs.

As mentioned on a previous Friends deal: The regular DVDs are the only way you can see the extended versions with bonus features.

The extended versions are not available on any HD streaming services or in Blu-Ray.

That "cracking the code" was for the DVD, not blu-ray.

Does anyone know if the dvd is 16:9 widescreen format or 4:3 original broadcast? My kid has an old 4:3 extended version set and still watches it constantly, if it were widescreen i'd buy it for her

But who cares? So what if someone is making money off of a purchase you would have otherwise made anyway?
