TFTP isn't too scary. There are several simple, portable, and free options like https://sourceforge.net/projects/tftp-server/. I just used that to update a managed switch via TFTP last week.

TFTP isn't hard to get going, just need to remember to disable the firewall on the host running the TFTP server.

Would this be a good router to pair with Verizon Fios 100/100 plan? Looking to get the 100/100 and don't want to rent one of their routers.

i have the EA7300...2 years old.....super fast on 5 ghz...but issues are in 2.4 ghz ( slower by 75% than 5 )

If Verizon FIOS is anything like Frontier FIOS, the router modem is mandatory, even if you don't use it. It's a way for them to lie about monthly rates. They may advertise something for $39.99/month, but it's really $49.99/month since they're going to bill $10/month for router rental regardless of if you will use or not.
