I finally just called them a couple days ago since my account had been off for a few weeks. Asked for the discounted year subscription ($99 for 12 credits). She said there weren't any. Asked if there were any other promotions. After looking, she said she'd put me on a 1 month free trial! The whole time I thought she was going to say "Hmm, looks like you've used too many trials, it's not working"...but it worked! One more free month Smilie ...that said, I've spent hundreds of dollars on Audible over the past few years, so I don't think they are too bad off from this.

I just switched to Silver Subscription. $15 every other month. 1 credit every other month. Works for me, as I don't listen every day. I pick up more books from the "Deal of the Day" anyway. So my library is full.

Anyone know of a good digital audiobook rental service? Or some sort of good audiobook streaming service? I don't care about owning.

Depends where you live, but Overdrive is the cheapest -- just see if you can get a library card with a big enough library. The LAPL (Los Angeles Public Library) has an enormous booklist and anyone in CA can join for only the cost of coming in to a branch library (i.e. you DO have to show up at the counter and show evidence of residency in CA). There's a bigger library in the Bay Area, but I forget its name (and it's too far for me to try). Otherwise, some libraries allow you to maintain a card for a small fee, and of course your local public library is free for you (but may or may not have much of a booklist). I actually have three semi-local library cards, and pick the best one for the book I'm considering. (But apparently I have ... issues with books.)

If you're already on Amazon Prime, there's the Prime Library, but it's barely worth checking. Kindle Unlimited is a little more fun, but no promises.

I haven't used Scribd, but that's another one.

"Chirp" looks useful too; it's an ownership service, but it's mainly based on deep discount prices, so you probably would spend less than you would on a streaming service. I haven't bought anything from it, though. Google Play Audiobooks sometimes offers the same discounts, in which case they're a better choice for me (no DRM).

The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt is a very good and unbiased read for these divided times. If you're curious of the psychological reasons why decent people on either side of a political or a religious divide believe in what they do (hint - it's not solely due to misinformation) this is the book for you - it will help you become more empathetic and persuasive in your personal life as well.

Thanks, I've tried both hoopla and overdrive but my library doesn't have a very big collection. I might try scribd
