They are optimized for Workstation specific works. have some extra security features and supports ECC Rams. Also, manufacturers provide support for XEON processors far higher than standard Consumer processors.

Is this machine comparable to a Surface Book 2 if not considering its weight?

I don't know about solidworks but this will provide many things you don't need for Java programming. A Xeon processor and the GPU (its CUDA cores) are good for calculation-intensive computations that prioritize accuracy.

Anything with a Quadro GPU should help solidworks, but I don't think you'll need a Xeon processor with ECC RAM.

Z-books are the very best laptops HP produces. These are tested to military specs, are highly expandable, and come with three years warranty. The only thing that this one misses (for me) is the webcam or I would be all over it. The display on this one is better than anything that Dell comes with.

Oh. No webcam. I looked up the video card and it seem to be very old tech - 2015 on par with 960m. I'll hold off for MSI p65 or zbook x360 I think. Thank you everybody for replies.

The built quality and warranty on HP Zbook is one of the best in the market. I do have this laptop personally and it's much better than Dell Lattitude laptop in term of performance and durability. Put a second SSD, upgrade RAM to 64GB and you have a heck of mobile station for work. I run VM Ware, Photoshop and tons of Chrome tabs on it without any hipcup.

However, battery on this laptop will not last you more than 2 hours in moderate use. And this version has been released for more than 2 years already.

This is a common misconception, they are warrantied longer and software/hardware validated to a more extensive degree, but the BUILD and material are not special and are no more durable than the budget laptops.

What is misconception about what I wrote. I wrote exactly what you are repeating and did not mentioned anything about build quality.
