Is this any good? How does it feel compared to an original joycon?

I use one. Has pretty much permanently replaced my left joycon for handheld mode. Do note that it does not work at all wireless - must be attached.

Much better than the joycon layout for 2d/ platformer / fighting games. Or even just navigating menus.

The lite console doesn't really appeal to me since I have this. Recommended.

I picked this up mainly to keep playing while I send in my drifting joycon to be fixed by Nintendo. But it does work so much better playing Collection of Mana.

It seems like it's considerably lighter than the actual joycon. This would probably bother me a lot, having this weight difference while holding the switch.
I only use joycons when in portable mode anyway so it not being wireless isn't dealed breaker.
Might just tested for myself. Thanks!

I use one as well and can't say the weight difference is noticeable at all when holding it all together. You can tell for sure just holding it in your hand but you couldn't use it like that if you wanted to so it's moot.

The D-pad is obviously the main point and it works very well. It feels mushy when compared to the switch pro controller dpad and the xbox one controller, which are clickier, so whether you prefer it really depends on what you're used to.

I've found it works great for Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, Mario Maker and Tetris 99. I can't think of any games that are better use cases to try it with other than fighting games, and I don't own any FGs on Switch.

A couple of downsides:

If you use a grip, you need to know the Hori joycon has an extra bump on the back of it where the release button is that makes it harder to fit into various grips. I use the Satisfye grip (not the revised one that just came out) and it fits very snuggly to the point where I can see a little bit of extra stress is put on it. The new one supposedly fits the Hori just fine.

It flat out does NOT fit in the Skull and Co grip case without physically cutting a hole out of the back to make room for the bump. It's still fully functional with a hole but not great for people that care about aesthetics.

Lastly, the "minus" button on the Hori is SUPER rubbery and just plain bad. It's not a button that gets used often so it shouldn't affect too much but it definitely sticks out.

I bought these a while ago. They are $9.99 at Fred Meyers if there's a location near you. Gamestop also has them for $14.99. Since I play a lot of old school, the dpad is a must and I only play on handheld mode anyways

I completely destroyed my joycon left stick playing too much so this will be a cheap replacement. Thanks

Amazon is 15 for the mario one right now.

I picked this up 2 days ago and just sent in my bad one today. I've heard 2-4 weeks from the day you send it in.

Amazon does have this same price.
