Etymotic ER4XR and ER4SR Extended Response Audiophile Earphones / In-Ear Monitors - $244.77 / $249.61 + FS at Amazon

Lowest price I've seen for these very well-reviewed earphones, the latest generation of in-ear monitors based on Etymotic's original 20+ year old IEM design. The ER4SR is the more flat-sounding "studio reference" model, but many listeners find this sort of sound a little lacking in body, which is where the "extended bass" ER4XR model comes in.

Unless you're getting custom I just don't think it's worth it to spend this much. I have some custom JH Audio JH16s and while they are awesome I also bought some $60 KZ headphones off Amazon that sound amazingly good for a universal fit. The KZs are likely a less flat response than some others but for the price I don't see how you could beat them for a universal fit.

These earphones are ideal if you have high quality audio files/spotify music. Low quality music or youtube and you will be wasting your money.

May I ask which KZ you got? They have a thousand models and selecting one can be a challenging endeavor.

I recently got KZ ZSX too. It is so good, to the point I think it should be around $100 or something.

I have some KZ ZS10Pro and I really like the sound. Great bass with very respectable mids and highs. Plus they're $50. I also have a pair of Tin HiFi T3 which have a clean sound but "audiophile quality bass" - which means it's there but not immediately evident (but the supplied cable is excellent).

A decade ago (yes these have technically been around for this long, although they were the ER4P/S version back then) they sounded great to me, but the single-driver design has been overlapped many times now with today's tri/quad driver technologically applied correctly.

I've been using the ER-4 family with custom earmolds for over 10yr now, and still haven't heard another earbud that made want to change. For effortless neutral sound from any source, these remain my recommendation when people ask.

Thanks for posting, solid deal.

I owned the 4P back in 2005. They sounded great and obviously the noise isolation was great. But even back then I didn't feel they justified the price....and even more so in 2019. Maybe if I had gotten the custom molds. My 2 cents.

I don't like the fact that you have to keep paying for filters, and they're not cheap.

"when applied correctly" is something that is overtly important and often not the case.

These headphones, much like the HD600, have stood the test of time for a reason. A reason that I'm ignoring so that I don't add another set of headphones to my collection! Haha.

I didn't even use one pair a year. Never had an issue.

Own ER4P since 2005 or so. Don't use them daily but on occasion. They are great, but I don't know if I would recommend them to most people for this price. You need a solid source, and not mind sticking these in way deep for s proper seal. ER as a company is great too - best customer service I received to date, and my "problem" was entirely a non-issue and my fault.

This ^.
These are on the higher end of the price/value scale but when you need it, the company is awesome. I caught the cord from my er-4p's in the zipper of a sweatshirt and had them replace the cord... and it was a very good experience.
