Weird. Our stores have Pendleton brand weighted blankets. My mom was wanting one, but I didn't like the construction of them compared to the $65 Chinese one I got on Amazon.

If someone can help me out, what's the point of a weighted blanket?

I mean, I understand babies like being swaddled, but what's the benefit for adults? I know heavy blankets are terrible for people with spinal injuries, like herniated discs, as they lead to increased nerve pain.

Helps with things like restless leg syndrome. Keeps me from moving in my sleep.

I knew there had to be actual benefits for them, that actually makes a lot of sense.
Thanks for the info

Have also read that these help people with disabilities e.g. Autistic kids. Supposed to help them fall asleep.

Weighted blanket also "cuddle" you while you sleep. Soft blankets leave opening air pockets when you sleep on your side. Weighted blanket will keep the blanket on you throughout the night. It's too hot for the summer but a godsend during winter.
Watch out for the size though. Weighted blankets are usually much smaller than a regular one. My first one was only 3' wide. The 2nd one was 4' wide. I had to put the 3' one in the living room as a throw because it's just too narrow to sleep in.

I imagine the slight pressure works like how a thunder coat works for dogs. Calming, slowing down thoughts, nerves, anxiety, etc.
I got one last winter and liked it so much I got my good friend one. They are really warm in the summer tho. Not everyone will like the same weight, or even like them at all.

Yep, they work by the same mechanism as the swaddle effect in babies, in those instances. Then again, even adults like being held close, so we don't lose it completely.

I got ours on amazon. I read a lot of reviews, they aren't all created equal. Some have problem with the beads migrating, others have issues with tearing. I'm happy with mine so far. I have to redo the tie on one of the inside attachment points though. It either came loose or tore.
Costco would be a good buy due to the excellent return policy.

Very good product thus far. Weight is evenly distributed and has a much better feel that the 20lb Amazon version we previously tried.

Biggest reason to purchase this is the unmatched Costco return policy. Zero risk purchase.

Why is your name sleepyrx btw? I just noticed your name, and nice that you were open mindedly asking, not precluding the possibility. Work at a sleep center or something?

Good summary. How large is this blanket? I can't see on the pic. I want a king size but they are all more like doubles so they roll off me etc

lol. I've suffered from sleeping disorders/conditions since early HS (insomnia, hypersomnia, etc. I even had UPPP surgery for sleep apnea, even tho I was thin and didn't snore) And, I had a fatigue disorder, so I was always sleepy.

Now I'm a pharmacist, so my HS SN (think AIM days), morphed into this in early college. Since, 17 letters would have been too long for most usernames & would have been annoying for others as an email.

So, since the beginning, I've been fascinated by anything related to sleep. I know that was a little but TMI, but whatever.
