Decent price. Personally I went with the 27" curved Samsung c27hg70 for 1440p 144hz. Can't play fps games on anything bigger myself.

No. They were $650 on buydig or $630 on ebay after coupon (buydig as seller).

Why not get a high end 40 inch 4k LED TV with 120hz refresh for half this price and call it a day?
It's not just the refresh rate, it's more importantly the pixel density ... unless you are not worried about quality of picture

Cos 120 is gimmick, in reality it's 60hz as computer monitor. I personally use a Samsung 40 inch for the office. Great for spreadsheets. Games are acceptable, but on 144Hz panel fast paced games look way better.
Having said that, 144hz is also pointless sometimes. In order to push 144hz on near 4k monitor like this you need 2080 Ti in most modern games. (Sorry Tetris, I don't consider you modern game) ; even 2x 2080 Ti in NvLink. Of course, if you are spending 1k on monitor you probably dropped already dropped few K on graphics card and CPU. Just want to mention this is not a monitor for everyone. For what is worth, just for comparison, my main gaming rig is running 1080Ti under water, overclocked to the max, and in some games struggles to keep 60 fps on 60hz 4k screen.

Because that set doesnt exist, for one. There are some decent 4k sets around that price but they are 60 hz and do not have freesync. Hdmi 2.0 cannot support 120 hz 4k at full color anyway and no standard tv has display port. Also response time and input lag are going to be worse.

Plus, even a 2080ti is nowhere near 120 fps at 4k anyway unless you play at low fidelity. Also 40 inch sets are overrated imo, having used both extensively I much prefer the 34 uw just moved out a few inches. However, I personally went with the $350 msi from microcenter as I dont see these more expensive ones worth the price premium, especially given all the quality control headaches people are having with them.

If I'm paying the tax any reason NOT TO go for the 34" predator?

This monitor defaults at 144hz. The predator has to overclock to get there. This monitor supposedly has better colors as well.

Other than that, I suppose its up to you

You can't get a decent gaming TV for less than $800.

What GPU do you run with it? I just ordered this monitor but I'm wondering if my GTX 1080 SC will be able to provide a decent experience.
