Since it's topical, I offer this PSA: Kidde issued a massive fire extinguisher recall on extinguishers dating back as far as 1973. If you have one on the list, Kidde will send you a free replacement as well as a postpaid box to return the bad one.

Also remember that the primary goal during a fire is safety, not fighting the fire; most fire extinguishers are much too small to extinguish a house fire, so use it to escape harm and wait for fire rescue. This might extinguish a small fire but only attempt to fight a fire if fire rescue is already in route and you have an escape route behind you. If the fire is spreading, the smoke can (and will) kill you if you stay behind to fight it.

Do some research before buying First Alert fire extinguishers. Many people (firefighters included) recommend getting one with a metal handle (and I think 5 lbs usually). First Alert's handles are plastic, thus why they are cheap.

Better than nothing though if you are on that tight of a budget.

EDIT: Someone pointed out that this has a metal trigger and valve, so maybe it is small but okay?

One of the sources that I looked at while looking for fire extinguishers for my new house. In my opinion, spending a little more on a reliable brand is worth saving my house in an emergency.

Too bad they won't ship, and the stores are too far away. Bummer.

Keeps asking me to select preferred shipping even though pick up store has been selected.

update: Cleared cookies, set store prior to adding to cart, then checkout as normal.
