Passmark is nearly 9000 for this 4 core/8 thread i7. Most laptops in this price range are 4000-6000.

this is the same deal that has been around for a while, just not sure why it's on and off so often. While the CPU is impressive (and for it's price), the CPU performance has been increasing at a higher rate in recent month (or years) due to competition from AMD. Intel just released the price on their next X CPU and it's like half of it's previous one. I guess Intel is trying to flood the market with cheaper "last year models" to throw AMD off.

Teardown of the 3584 (this deal is for the 3583). Looks to have a spare ram slot and room for a sata drive in addition to the existing nvme ssd. YMMV on this model until I get it and open it up. Seems the bottom panel comes off fairly easily compared to some laptops I've had to open.

It may have gone back OOS again. Not dead though, keep watching it. I kept a tab open with the deal on staples and hit refresh every now and then. Saw it come in stock and then out again several times.

So don't expire the deal. Another i5/SSD from staples got expired but I saw it keep coming in and out of stock. Not sure if its cancellations or new stock showing up.

Keep refreshing. It's gone in and out of stock regularly the last few days.

No thunderbolt port, and too heavy, other than that it has a reasonably fast processor.

yeah, Staples is playing up some weird trick, this thing just come and go every few days. But seriously, it's a good price for $400 if you need it now, otherwise wait for the holiday season. I think the PC market will see big price drop and newer and faster device coming for the next 12 month.

Trouble with the Ryzens is the GPU takes a fixed percentage of your RAM and I haven't seen anyone find a way to have it take more or less. The intel integrated allows you to set it to whatever you want.

I've seen some Ryzen laptop deals where the buyer got ticked because they upgraded the ram and the GPU took a huge chunk, way more than they needed for their apps.
