My son wanted this to get around at college in San Diego. This was suggested to him by a floor mate. Original price is $149.

BLACK COLOR ONLY!!!! Not the prettier mint green.

It says "Last Call," so not sure how long this will last. I bought one yesterday and it shipped out the same day.

Is it that good of a price? I have an a5 lux is this that much better? Do you have a link to rc motor kit?

Cost of battery, controller, motor, and your time is too much. You can easily get a used Bird for about $200.

Wow! Didn't know Décathlon was selling in US!
It's a great brand, they own a ton of stores all around Europe.
Great quality, cheap prices, insane warranty on their stuff (at least in Europe : return it anytime, they replace it)

Why would I want a Bird that's been touched by god knows how many filthy hands?

My converted scooter will murder a Bird in short order. A 6374 motor can put out a few HP. And it will be light as a real bird, compared to the Xiaomi m365.

I already have plenty of left over batteries from my other hobbies to use. I won't even hit $300 to have a 22mph capable scooter than I can legitimately carry around. Also converts back to a kick only scooter in minutes.

Why are you afraid of a used Bird? You're not sleeping with it. Change the rubber sleeves and you don't have to touch filthy hands.

I'm not afraid of using them. Have you been to downtown LA? If you've seen the place up close, you wouldn't want to own one of these scooters that's been living on those streets.

I also like to build my own toys and go fast. I like to save money (why I'm here) but I don't live exclusively on the Cheap side of the Good-Fast-Cheap triangle.

If converted to electric, that sounds tricky but good luck!

If anyone is planning on using this purely as a kick-powered model, I recommend just buying an electric scooter. I was augmenting my weak electric scooter with using one foot to push and started developing a liagment issue on the top of my foot.

Plus, once you hit 10+ mph speeds using electric power, you'll never want to use a foot-powered one ever again.

thanks for the link. it is kind of pricy @ $150 for the kit including motor, and no ESC. Well, I got the scooter so we'll see how it performs. Hopefully it's as good as everyone says. It does look like there are a lot of complaints about the folding mechanism, hopefully that isn't an issue. The A5 lux is kind of annoying but it's pretty solid. Free returns so not much to lose I suppose?

Just curious - with the sort of batteries you have how much mileage can you squeeze out of this? Thinking about going this route as a beginner but not sure how lucrative the objective is.

You can get more mileage than you should ride on one of these things with little extra weight.

A small 5Ah (@ 48V) lithium pack will get you 25 mph for more than 10 miles.

The objective with this particular unit is quick jaunts around town, mostly to grab lunch during my workday. I will likely never travel more than 5-6 miles on any single trip and will definitely keep it below 25 mph, so a pack half that size would be sufficient for me.

I want to be able to carry it on the metro without much attention. Most will not know it is electric at first glance. There's room to hide a battery pack and controller under the platform.

Most definitely! And I know you mentioned weight earlier - do you think you'd be able to get it to 20lbs after the mod?
