Editor's Notes & Price Research

  • "Collecting Marvels #0-4. Within the Marvel Universe, heroes soar high in the skies, ready to battle the villains who threaten their world. Yet living in the shadow of these extraordinary icons are ordinary men and women who view the "MARVELS" with a mixture of fear, disbelief, envy and admiration. Among them is Phil Sheldon, a New York City photojournalist who has dedicated his career to covering the exploits of the Marvels and their effect on humankind. Written by Kurt Busiek and masterfully illustrated by Alex Ross, Marvels presents a richly painted historical overview of the entire Marvel Universe."

There are quite a few other books/comics on sale but this one is amazing for any fans of Alex Ross.

I personally prefer ComiXology's Guided View, but the book is Bubble Zoom enabled on Google Play which is also cool in its own right for those interested.

I have the original/vanilla digital version, this one looks interesting though with all the "behind the scenes" stuff. Is it worth the upgrade?

I would most certainly not recommend A Death in the Family, if for no other reason than its painfully dated and racist references to Iran.

For example, here is the Joker being made UN Ambassador to Iran:

And another one of him in a turban:

Much as we all enjoy watching Jason Todd being beaten to death, you've got quite a bit of that to slog through before you get there. I don't think it's worth it.

Yeah, for real. I read these issues when they came out and I was humbled by how epic they were. I want this on a shelf. This may be the first deal I pass on because I like it too much and it's just not good enough, irrespective of discount.

Thanks for the find. I also happened to have a $4 Google e-book credit that had to be used by the 16th.

Absolutely agree, I tried reading it and it's painful. Its only notable or remembered cause of the phone call voting.

While that is certainly true we shouldn't just ignore or destroy anything that is considered to be "racist" today because in doing so we are certain to repeat the same mistakes in the future.

Iran isn't a race, those references are not racist, and Iran is run by Islamofascists.
