I have the 55 lbs version of this and it's not airtight just like most pet food storage. Overall it's a nice container. If you really want it airtight, separate the food into gallon (or larger) size ziplock bags and then put them in the storage container. I recently did this with my 40 lbs bag of dog food to maximize the freshness. I also kept the bag in the storage container to help block light.

If possible, put the dog/cat food bag into the container rather than pouring it in. The bag blocks light which protects the food to some degree and keeps the oils in. Otherwise, you should clean the container each time it is empty. Regardless, keep the lot number of the cat/dog food that is printed on the bag in case there is a recall to know if your bag was included.

I've had this container for the last couple years. Love it. Use an old quart Chinese food container to scoop

Decent deal. This is the 28 qt size. Same price as Chewy, for those who don't do Amazon.

BTW, many reviewers state that this container is not airtight, contrary to the item's description as so.

For those who prefer the bigger container, the 55 lb container is $24.99 at Amazon.

Fairly good deal and I agree that the container is not really airtight. The hinge and clasp are ok but not as sturdy as they could be.

I also noticed that this 3 piece set is 19.99 currently... IRIS USA, Inc. 3- Piece Airtight Pet Food Storage Container Combo, Blue Moon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007RBB...LDbA63EZ0V

I use 4-gallon buckets I get for free from my he bakery department of my local grocery store. Rubber gasket provides an airtight seal. Smaller container keeps food fresher longer.

Used to have this- would not use for bigger bags of dog food as the oils in the dog food tend to get rancid by the end since it's not airtight

Ok to use for rice or as storage for creative things

I had one for my dog and have used it for about 4 years now. Its excellent! I ended up buying it again when it came up for sale and used it for bulk rice, as it doesnt matter what type of dry food you put in there. Highly recommend.

I've used mine for 4-5 years with Taste of the Wild and have had no problems. Then again I leave the food inside the bag and clamp it closed with using a spring clamp [lowes.com]. I don't consider it airtight and wouldn't use it for rice unless it were inside another bag tied closed.

those 3 piece sets are great if you have multiple animals that eat different things (cats, dogs, rabbits, mice, old/young, medicated foods, treats)... we have 3 sets of them in the pantry. raised the bottom shelf a bit so they slide under when stacked and it's been great for years.

not sure why air tight is that big of a deal

the bag the dog food is stored in when you bought it isn't airtight to begin with

because some people are looking to store things that arent dog food.

and even with dog food, people buy in bulk and it will sit in this container for far far longer than it sits in the container it is sold in.

Kinda unrelated...

Not a 'deal' per se, but if anyone is interested in an absolutely great 100% air tight container for storing pet food or something else I have been buying these for years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002DJOOI/

They're amazing. My newest one is 5 years old and will probably last.... as long as I do.
