Word of caution. Do NOT use it on older kids (especially once teething). These will affect jaw alignment and tooth growth. Older kids will need orthopedic pacifiers. Learned it hard way.

why do you need 4?

It's the one for 12+ months that you need at least 20. The monster grew teeth.

They disappear pretty easily. We've bought maybe 12 of them over the last year and only know the whereabouts of maybe 2 of them right now

My baby very very much preferred these to all others I tried. It is invaluable to have spares as they will get lost/thrown/etc. many will get lost along the way. It's totally worth having the spares laying around to avoid hunting them down whilst a little one is unhappy.

I don't think it's the best for 0-3 month, first it is hard to chew on and hard to apply on baby's mouse. Second, the round shape is kind of block the nose.
