You're funny. You seem to have a lot more than .02 to say about this. And a little bossy and whiney. Open your mindset to include the possibility other scenarios. Dropping the petulant child behavior would also benefit you.

as is typically the case, the newer models tend to pack in the features and remove the more crucial components in lieu of lighter, cheaper ones. Focus on the amp quality, not the receiver features as more than likely the receiver features can be done by your smart tv, streaming box etc. Exactly why receivers that are 20 years old have better amps, made of mostly metal (not plastic) made in Japan... Pay for what's important, features are not it. my .02 keep the change

Tempting. Very tempting. Trying to hold out to see next year's Yamaha lineup though.

Next year's lineup rumored to have HDMI 2.1 though, making it more future proof than current models.

Hey mods, deal with this please. Totally inappropriate. Also, you're welcome, pal.

Utterly irrelevant. First, good luck finding content that utilizes that spec within the next 4-5 years. Not happening. Also, HDMI as it stands now is good enough for 8k (not 60fps and higher)... so you'r suggesting holding out for a new spec for a whole year. Then when you get 2.1, you'll wonder why you waited a year. Read people.
"Mods, deal with this"?? Do you mean your bad advice? A lot of us run external amps and could care less about the internal amps..

Great price! The 7.2 RX-A1080 model had pretty mediocre measurements [audiosciencereview.com] from a DAC perspective, but not bad for all-in-one AVR. I wonder if this A2080 is an improvement over that, or same thing but just more channels.

DAC chip is the same ES9007S, but the 9.2 model has two of them.

Exactly. The 3080 has a tasty pro chip in it too. Still, negligible difference.
