I have Nikon Z6 and had the Nikon D750. Z6 kills it in video with the 4k video and will kill the d850 as well because it has better autofocus. However, the Z6 struggles in lowlight photos sometimes whereas the d750 didnt and the D850 is even better. I'm an amateur and wanted a camera that could be good for both so I chose the z6. The next full frame mirrorless Nikon makes should kill the d850 if they dont wimp out on its specs.

Don't think you will see one moving from a D850 to a Z6..maybe the Z7 which is a big step up from the Z6. Read the negatives on the Z6. I shot the camera on rental and love it, but it only works with the latest Nikkor lenses that have the AF motor.

Mind you I am not a professional but I am at the point now where I have bought and sold enough cameras with the big brands to realize that realistically most cameras made in the last 5 years, probably longer with good lenses will get you great photos. I've printed out a ton of photos in the last year and most of my favorites were actually with my APS-C Canons. I think for someone at my level probably an 80D is the best camera out there. I will say even though Nikon especially the D850 weren't on my radar, if it gets low enough I could definitely see it as a possibility. I bought into the Sony full frame hype and it's okay, but it's been almost a year and there isn't a single time I have held my camera and not hated how it feels and I wish had a Canon in my hand instead, not a single day. lol
myself too. I own A7II and III (both with grips ) bodies with 7-8 sony/zeiss lenses so its safe to say im heavily invested into sony.
I also have Canon 5D mark IV DSLR with 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 and some more prime lenses and i actually use Canon almost exclusively. i did also have 80D but sold it and now regretting it. I still have batt grip or 80D.

No one that quotes or links to Ken Rockwell can be taken seriously. What a sensationalist cluttered website that has so many words, yet says so little.

LOL..I've shot with some Nat Geo pro's who respect Rockwell's opinion. He's rare in that he speaks his mind, knows his stuff, and post's full size images. He knows a whole lot more than the vast majority. Where a few people get annoyed is his linking items for purchase, but he discloses that. Do point out where he is wrong. I'll check back.

How about you post your photo/website and tell us all about the D850?

Currently, very best DSLR that money can buy.

It's a joy to shoot with.

Decent deal on a dslr if you already have Nikon glass sitting around. Bought my d850 on preorder and love it! I would not consider refurb though, squaretrade/credit cards etc warranties make you jump through hoops, pay shipping both ways, hope it doesn't get smashed in the mail etc. agree with the above poster(s) it's worth the peace of mind to pay the few extra bucks for new with full warranty, especially when it drops down to the $2800 range.
you'd also do well to consider a d810 or even d800/d800e. Those cameras didn't suddenly stop being capable of amazing photos when new models were released, and are flooding the market under $1000 if you don't mind the no warranty/squaretrade gamble.

Eh, I went mirrorless and I could go back to DSLR tomorrow with no issues.
I've had both. A massive problem with DSLR is you cannot review photos via viewfinder. It's a huge deal since the LCD screen is washed out in any sunlight. So you simply cannot check your shot accurately on the fly. Also mirrorless allows for 2x and 3x magnification when focusing manual lenses. Dslrs fail on this. The fact is you can but high quality manual lenses for $400 that would cost $1400 in automatic focus style.

Those alone make DSLR handicapped and nauseum.

Rockwell is a Canon cheerleader. He's completely unobjective and deserves the same place in hack journalism as rush Limbaugh. And I say this as a conservative.

I also use the Canon 5D Mark IV DSLR with a 70-200mm f2.8 and 24-70mm f2.8 and a few other prime lenses. I use my Canon full and Canon crop cameras exclusively although I have a Sony mirrorless too. I am a professional for 20 years. I need to provide the best images possible.

Look at professional sports photographers towards the end of the games and see what is on their shoulders.

In my opinion, if you go with the best equipment especially the glass, you will be happy for a decade or more. Quality equipment never goes out of style.

Just my professional two cents.

Will you share your reason behind choosing Canon when you have A7III? Is it just ergonomics?

I think Ken Rockwell is not a good source of information, either. And his photographs are terrible.

DPReview, the Northrups, plenty of other knowledgeable photographers out there.

But the Nikon D850... damn... extremely good camera. Bulky and heavy, but otherwise, wow, it's amazing.
