No Gretsch's that are the 5____ (eg 5420T) series are made in Japan. Thats only the 6___ series (eg 6120) the Gretsch highest production series are made in Japan. Don't kid yourself, China is making some very good guitars these days... Even Talked about this topic on Anderton's Podcast this week with Chappers and the Captain. Yes China makes a number of low end garbage, that does not mean they don't make some very good guitars as well. Obvioulsy there's a difference between a $150 Guitar and a $900 guitar made there.

I've been playing for over 35 yrs and remember when Folks thought any Japanese guitars were total garbage!!!! Then Korea, now China ... What next? China has vastly improved over the last ten yrs. Gretsch wouldn't put a mid level 5 series guitar out there that lists around a grand if it was junk.

My friend picked this exact guitar up this summer. It's very well built, plays great and IMO has better pickups (they improved the blacktops for this model) than the Korean 5420 (which I owned and loved). This Guitar is very nice and this is a good price. If it's what your looking for, smaller size body similar in size to a LP that's a centre block.

Maybe go and check one out in ASAP and judge for yourself. Or can always order it, if ya don't like it Adorama is excellent at returns. Just my 2 cents, but then again I know and have played the guitar.

Good luck in the guitar shopping

I thought they were made in Japan with Korean parts... Is it only this model that is made in China?

Read reviews. No dice from me. I've had $300 dollar Deans made in Korea that were awesome. These will drop in price coming from China.

EDIT: Plus you can't trust sponsored deals.

Was about to say, I don't think they make the 5 series in China. The other color 5 series I wanted to buy were Korean. I might bite the bullet for $650.

I own one of the 5420s, what would you say is the improvement in regards to the pick ups?
