Heads up there's a problem I had with all 5 echos I got from woot.

They don't see the problem when they reset the device but..

When it loses connection or just enough time goes by the Audio will not Work period.
Her light will pop up she will execute your command but no music no response absolutely nothing. I bought all of mine at Very good condition for 30$ a pop. And I sent them all back. Your Guaranteed to get my 5 that weren't working.

The only way to fix this is pull the plug and plug it back in but it's only very temporary.

And again because it works when plugging it in amazon sees Zero problems with the device and resells it. Nobody plugs it in and waits a day to inspect the products

Not to mention e-paper doesn't strain your eyes like a normal screen. And a crappy, low res one? No thanks. A good e-reader is worth $40 any day of the week.

Try reading a book on a cheap tablet in the sun. Cheap Kindles are perfect for taking on holiday for reading by the pool or at the beach. Also, they last weeks on a single charge.

$30 is the perfect price for that device. Not sure who all those people were buying them for $100+.

those remotes don't have volume controls - hard pass on that.

I still can't figure out why you would pay $40 for a non-backlit reader when their similar sized backlit tablets are $35 new. Yes they suck but they work quite well for reading books.

FYI, anyone thinking about the microwave needs to read the reviews, the bad ones.

This sounds like some weird network or connection issue on your side. There are particular spots in my house that get poor or intermittent wifi. It manifests in odd ways on the Echo sometimes.

I was thinking about microwave, thx for the warning. Best hit from microwave reviews
"So, if the paired Echo is not near enough to the microwave... You will push its "Ask Alexa" button on the microwave and yell over your shoulder, "reheat one cup of coffee". Alexa will respond by telling you the population of the Tibetan plateau, asking you how many rolls of toilet paper you want to add to your shopping list."

All reviews of the microwave indicate that even if you ignore the Alexa functionality (that is really questionable), it's just a really crappy microwave.

Hmm.. same happen to two that I got last deal. Funny the amazon rep actually told me it was a known issue in the gen 1.

I totally agree but I wish the cheaper backlit ones were available. I read at light and dont want to bother others with flashlight.
Which one is the cheapest best one with blacklight?

We had one 4 years ago I think, the one with keyboard. Now it's stuck at kid reading under tree splash screen. No way to restart or reboot.
