Terrific, charming book. Actually contains 4 books. The first, The Sword in the Stone, is the best, and warning, the ones toward the end do get pretty depressing.

Interesting. Most people consider the first book the worst, being the most childish, and the later ones generally getting better.

I guess it greatly depends upon whether you consider the whole thing "a children's book that gets too depressing by the end" or "a YA novel with a childish first arc."
