I'm going to have to take out a second mortgage by the time this Sears sale ends. Had been looking to grab a forstner set for a while. This set wasn't originally included in the sale, then dropped to $35.00, and now down to $20.94.

Not available for shipping, free pick up in store where available

Just so everyone knows these are carbon steel. You want high-speed steel for drill bits. Yes, even for woodworking. HSS is harder, so it stays sharp longer. More importantly it can get hotter before losing its ability to stay hard, so you can work more quickly for a longer period of time. Carbon steel is fine for a small project where you might only do a couple of holes for door knobs or hinges or something like that.

Would these work well on carving out spaces for hinges on standard doors (for homes)? Aren't those holes/spaces called a 'mortis'?
No. I mean, I suppose if you had some way to hold the drill perfectly straight and control the depth exactly it could sorta work in theory with overlapping drills. But, what you want for a hinge mortise is a router with the right bit and, preferably, a jig. I just replaced 15 doors with slabs and it's a piece of cake with the right tools.

In general, forstner bits are an excellent choice for carving out the bulk of material for a mortise when you have it chucked up in a drill press with a precise depth stop, then finish it off with some handwork with a chisel.

But trying to handhold it for a door hinge mortise is a recipe for a disaster. If you only have one door to do, just cut them in with a chisel. If you have several, then it might be worth investing in, or making your own, a hinge mortising jig to use with your router.

Weird, I had $10 in points, making these $12. I've had a drill press for years and been putting off forstners because they're so expensive. At $12, I can try them out if I like them enough to have them indispensable, then it should be fairly east to justify the upgrade at that point. Now I just have to remember where the last Sears within 50 miles of me is.

Paid $17 for a single 1" forstner bit almost 4 years ago on Amazon. Have always wanted the full set of 16 bits, but it was well over $200 bucks for the name brand Freud bits.
Can't compare Freuds to Chinese made Craftsman, Freuds are worth their price while Craftsman are worth their sale price.

I'd love to know what metropolitan areas still have full Sears retail stores in or near them. My current area had 6 of them 15 years ago and none today. I'd have to drive 240 miles to get to the closest one. The last area I lived in before this one also no longer has one within 100 miles. A while ago they even closed all their Chicago stores (relevant because Sears HQ is just outside Chicago).
I've got 3 Sears within 5-7 miles from Burbank CA. One of them leased 1/3 of their building to Burlington Coat Factory within the past year, the one in mall is decimated with low inventory and there's a huge 2-story Sears in Glendale CA, haven't been there for a year but they always had good foot traffic (for a Sears) whenever I went.

I'm in Fresno, California and we still have two full SEARS stores (one a couple miles from me, the other a few miles the other direction). I've been lucky with these Sears deals. Although, the trade-off is...I live in Fresno. Both stores appear to be going through a remodel. Now, we know a company on the verge of disappearing isn't going to 'remodel' one store let alone BOTH stores in a low-income city. The employees tell me the Crafstman clearance it to make room for the Holiday section. Employees I've talked to sound like they are not convinced of what they're saying, but are spouting off what they were told to say. One employee even told me she was worried and 'we'll see' without me even asking. I feel bad for them. I'm extremely curious what happens next. Oddly, both stores also seem to have 7+ employees standing around without a thing to do and, at most, 5 customers at any given time.

Will they become Amazon B&M's? Who knows, but it's curious. I have the same curiosity about Pier 1. The employees there gave the same impression (sales barely appear to cover employee wages let alone rent).

Says "Ineligible for shipping" (free or not) and the earliest pick up date a the only store left here in Las Vegas is December 5, 2019. I m not sure Sears will be around that long, so it's a "No" for me Frown

Sadly no more Sears stores in the Phoenix area.
Fountain Hills? It sucks that they even closed down the smaller franchised local appliance stores. There was one near where I worked that sold only appliances and tools which were the only items I bought from Sears recently.

Hey, I live there also, nice to see someone from there, the Fresno one is remodeling because its downsizing, At least in my experience (SYW user so I go there every other week) on the weekday's its dead, but on Fridays and Weekends, (at least when I go and the times, the last 2 hours of the store hours are dead because (im guessing) of the bad area, but before that its more active) it gets a upkick in foot traffic and a good amount of people, last time I went on a sunday, there was a good amount of people and lines, Which is surprising since the mall is bones dead. The other store (Clovis) seems more inactive and less people in general, I didn't know that one was remodeling. I've heard that the Fresno one (at least back in 2016) was one of the top profitable stores. Its odd how it has more reviews on google than Home Depot (Sears just reached 1K reviews) That store has been there since 1956 so its super old lol, just like Downtown

I honestly dont know the difference. I had a single use, for a single bit, and ordered the Freud because it was highly rated on Amazon. Care to explain more the difference between the Freud and Craftsman. What differences should I expect to see when using one vs the other?
