Don't buy these. They likely won't come with a SD card and will be scratched etc. I suggest buying a refurb with 1 year warranty from Nintendo's eBay store:

That's worth $10 extra in my opinion.

GameStop doesn't do anything to systems they take in regardless of what they say on them. They take the trade in, wipe it down, put a sticker on it and sell it.

Premium refurbished means they sent it back to the warehouse and someone else wiped it down with an alcohol wipe but no type of actual refurbishing.

Also makes for a good homebrew machine.

of all the different used/refurbished/recharged/etc condition types from gamestop, isn't there some that should be avoided? is there one that's more likely to be better than others?

I think an $80 product targeted directly at kids (2ds) would be a good start?
I was asking which _condition_ is the best, meaning, there are:
* gamestop premium refurbished
* pre owned
* recharged refurbished

If someone wants to get into the 3DS library, this isn't a bad device. It's not as fast as the New 3DS models but it's far more comfortable in my opinion.

Fair enough, misunderstood. Recharged refurb means something wrong then corrected, pre owned means trade in and being sold in same condition.

Unsure on what premium refurb is and how it differs from recharged, couldn't find much info.

Not the point I was making, I think it is a good product. Of all the things to buy gamestop refurbished I think a handheld likely owned by a kid would be one of the riskiest to purchase.

Just buy one of each and keep the best one. Gamestop premium refurbished = refurbished with premium quality 400 grit sandpaper. My premium refurb Xbox had no blemishes, just sandpaper marks thruout the console

Ok, I definitely agree with that. I've read previous threads on refurbished 2DS and 3DS from Gamestop and there are always a few people reporting that the device they received was pretty beat up.

You can also ask them to open the box before buying if in store I would assume.
