I think this is the same deal as a post from late June https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/t/13161274
If so, I'm amazed there are still anymore out there.

Edit: NM, looks like it's a different model.

That one may be different (probably the slider, I think that one was clearanced back in the spring), but this one has been on clearance in various places for a bit too.

I believe the Hitachi/Metabo stuff on sale at Lowes is still a similar-better value, and much easier to find than the YMMV DeWalt stuff. Their compact 12" sliding (front rails so you can mount it closer to a wall in a shop) miter saw is only $299, which gives you significantly better cut capacity and utility over a 12" fixed miter saw:

The 12" Hitachi fixed miter saw comparable to the DeWalt in this deal is only $199 if you prefer, and it's widely available in Lowes stores at that price (before applying the 10% movers discount).

.. and the 10" Hitachi non sliding compound miter saw is $99:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Metabo-H...1000872160

.. you should be able to utilize the %10 movers coupon on any of these to get them down to $269, $179 and $89 respectively and not have to search all over to find them. The DeWalt have been on sale for a while and are harder and harder to find at this YMMV price. The HItachi/Metabo products also come with a 5 year warranty vs 3 with the DeWalt.

That's another 12" fixed miter saw, seems like DeWalt makes minor tweaks to the same basic saw which leads the "old" versions to go on clearance fairly often.

Good catch - I think the key detail is the saw in question is a non-sliding miter saw for $175 on clearance (the poster thought it may have been a slider), if it were the DeWalt sliding C-M saw at that price it would be smoking hot.

I tend to agree. These DeWalts are a big discount from where they were, so if that's the saw you want and you can find one, you should grab it. But, comparing them to what else is out there, I'm not sure they're worth it. I would like a double bevel and a 12" saw is nice, so I've considered grabbing one of these along with that nice Craftsman stand. But, I have a 10" sliding Delta with stand that I bought on clearance from Lowe's earlier this year for $69 and I'm having trouble justifying the cost of the upgrade to myself, even at the clearance prices.

The slider was $180 back in June but they were few and far between. If I had been able to find one I would have had to jump on it.

The Shopmaster series Deltas aren't bad saws, and as long as it cuts true and you pair it with a good blade most home/light contractor users won't notice a big difference between it and the higher end Delta Cruzer models which are comparable to the DeWalt and Hitachi models. I went with the Hitachi 12" front slider as it was going on a permanent workbench mounted up against a wall, and was almost half price at the current Lowes discount as Hitachi re-brands to Metabo. If I were concerned about portability on a stand, I think a 10" slider like yours would be the way to go.

I got my DW716 for $175 a couple of weeks ago. It was posted as a comment on another thread. Last one on clearance, combined it with the $20 off $200 coupon. Pretty happy they had it.

Thread from September

Having owned both, the Hitachi/Metabo is not nearly as stout or well manufactured. There is a reason for the MSRP.

I have an old 10 inch hitachi slider. Does almost everything i ever needed it too do. I think there might have been an instance or 2 where a 12 inch would have been nice. Just remember the master Matthias Wandel never uses a miter saw yet still can build anything from scrap wood he digs out of a dumpster..although he is an artist with a band saw and he has several table saws with various sleds.

Another tool i bought about a year ago was a track saw for ripping large sheets of plywood. No more "eyeballing" it. Just clamp down the track and off you go. Very nice if you rip a lot of 3/4 inch plywood.

My old Hitachi is still the "made in Japan" model. Yes..they really got cheap when they moved production to China..have no experience with those newer models.

Thanks OP! Just picked up the 12" for $175. For anyone curious the specs are exactly the same as the "new" DW716 with different SKU. HD staff couldn't tell me why they're different.
