Your authors who write for a living would appreciate you spending $2 to help them out if you like the book as their mortgage company has not waived any late fees.

I get your point but for $2 worth a shot.

Your friendly local library loans the Kindle format of this book, among other electronic formats for free. Adjacently, most public libraries have waived the late fees. Happy reading!

Told in the same style as Canterbury Tales... This is one of the best, if not the best science-fiction books ever written. Central to the story is the ultimate Grendel. The Shrike is haunting. An absolutely fantastic story if you let it mature.

It's so dang clever.

I'm not saying the sequels are bad, but they are VERY different books. I found them to be a bit more of a slog to get through than the first book. Overall glad I read them, really interesting concepts, but not near the top of my sci-fi list.

I wholeheartedly agree that beloved authors should be encouraged and supported, but unfortunately it is Amazon that gets the lion's share here (65%).

So here's how I am willing to compromise: read one of Dan Simmons novels, and if I like it, I will navigate to the author's website, and seek to support his writing directly Smilie

I'm curious what your list would be? I'm searching for suggestions. Early Greg Bear have been some of my most favorites, outside of the classics. TIA

This is more my list of what I've loved in the past year, but I loved "We Are Legion (We Are Bob)" and the rest of the Bobiverse trilogy.

Coincidentally, I recently read "Legion" from Brandon Sanderson. It's really three novellas. I would look in a library since it's a little slight for a novel, but really a fun read.

This is a very complex book with many well developed characters, takes a while to get it all going. Aditionally, first character's story can be a slog.
It is one of my most favorite sci fi books though.
If you want intertaining thrill ride with sci fi setting, try Red Rising trillogy.
