I've had an Audible account for a couple years now, and I keep it for a reason probably most people would find silly: the pronunciation of foreign/alien words.

I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi, and I've gotten frustrated when I read the names of characters and places I have no freakin' idea how to pronounce.

With audio books, it was so satisfying to listen to Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives and know how everything is supposed to be said. Or even The Count of Monte Cristo, because I don't have a clue how to pronounce French words.

Many authors specifically give the narrators for their books the "correct" way to say the words they've created.

I'm in a lull right now, but I'm waiting for the next Kingkiller Chronicles book "The Doors of Stone". C'mon Rothfuss, you can do it!

You should join the Facebook group "audible.com listening club." It's really helped when I'm in a lul because there are so many suggestions and recommendations. There's definitely a lot of Brandon Sanderson fans on there.

I had the prime day deal (4.95/month for 3 months) and it would not work for me, saying sorry and that I need to read the fine print.

I just canceled after I used my credits and now the promo works, so if anyone is paying full price try that.
Had the prime deal also. Just cancelled but still won't let me sign up unless I pay the full membership price. Must only work for specific accounts for reasons unknown.

Since I kept getting the error, I emailed audible support and they offered me half off for 3 months. Give it a try if you can't get this to work.

HEADS UP. I tried to get this deal to work, but every time I clicked the purchase button I got an error message saying they couldn't complete the purchase.

So I went to their chat support to let them know and they got it to work, and gave it to me for $8.20/month for 3 months. So... if you really need that extra $0.75 per month, you know what to do... :-P

Use your local library for free audiobooks! The Overdrive/Libby apps make it so easy.

I had an existing membership but have had zero credits for several months so I just canceled it to try this. Tried with my normal browser, firefox, and received the error that people are getting. Copied the url to use it in Chrome, and got the same error. Bah.

Kept clicking and it worked. It seems to be a site problem. Good luck! Thanks, OP.

Edit: They charged me 14.95 (regular charges). All those that went through may want to check Account charges or CC.
After a chat with customer service - I signed up for $8. They refunded the $16 charged earlier.

I don't understand why this is a monthly fee service. Why don't they just sell audio books. What is the monthly fee for?

They do sell audiobooks. Membership gets you 1 credit (1 audiobook) a month. You also get a discount on their audiobooks.

In addition to the monthly book credit, you also get 2 free "audible originals" every month. Those are audiobooks you can only get on Audible, and some of those are really good. They also have 2 for 1 credit deals and sales only available for members.

I don't mind the pricing structure, I just don't like paying full price. 😁

Are the mailers account specific? If not would anyone have a 50% off mailer they aren't going to use.
